Default What's your commute?

Thought I'd start a thread to talk about commutes. Curious how people get around in the city
  • What mode(s) do you use? (walk, cycle, transit, car driver, car passenger, combination of modes like park and ride?)
  • What's the route you take? Show us your route on a map.
  • How much time does it usually take?
  • How good or bad is it?
  • What does it cost you each month?
  • Is it always 20 minutes to downtown from Airdrie?

Here's mine:

(no I don't work at MVP hair for men)
  • I walk (90% of the time)
  • 15 minutes
  • I find the walk commute much less stressful than driving. Completely predictable in time, less predictable with weather, but generally a great way to start and end the day.
  • Costs me virtually nothing.

I have a 25 minute walk to work. Aside from the occasional weather delays, it's a pretty fantastic commute.

I drop the gf off at the C-train and then take Stoney Trail to the office. 30 mins at the absolute most. Deerfoot would be a bit shorter on a good day and 4x as long on a less good day.

I drive and it takes me anywhere from 4-15 minutes, depending on traffic, red lights and construction.

It's been on the higher side every day for the past month or so.

30 minute walk, assuming the weather co-operates. Usually take 10th Ave SW to 8th St and snake my way to my office near McDougall School. The walk is usually better in the morning as during my evening commute I usually have to deal with impatient drivers cutting me off in marked crosswalks.

If the weather doesn't co-operate, 15 minutes via Sunalta LRT station.

30 min walk or 20 min walk + train.

Will only train on inclement weather days.

I used to work downtown by the Calgary Tower before being laid off.

Live in Airdrie.

Drove downtown and it took me about 40 minutes to get there, 45-50 to get home. Plus a 5 min walk from my parking spot.

20 minute bike ride 3 seasons. Winter is usually bus in(30 min), walk or run home when warmer than -5, which is most days(35-50 min). Distance is about 6km from Highwood to DT.

I'd estimate yearly commute cost is:
$200 bike clothes/parts
$250 bus tickets.

And I'm always happier on the days I'm not on the bus. Especially in winter when the ride home can take 1.5 hours to go 6km.

My main commute is 5 minutes waiting for elevators. 1 minute running across the street.

-Primary job is across the street from my condo. I can see my office from my balcony. The office zip-line jokes never end.

-Secondary job is downstairs - a shop inside my condo.

-Tertiary job is 10 minutes away by bike, up center street from downtown to 16th avenue, past Edmonton trail.

The average commute costs a few calories and the biggest slow-down/traffic jam is waiting for the elevator. Latte sipping all the way.

25 min drive from Mckenzie Lake -> 39th Ave station, park my car, jump on train for another 10 mins to 1st street, walk 2 blocks to work. (40 mins in total), same thing way home.

20-30 minute drive from the west end to DT on Bow Trail. A little faster in the summer.

Walk through the Beltline to the east end of Downtown. Takes about 25 minutes, on average.

With the new cycle tracks, I can go virtually door-to-door completely separated from motor vehicles and pedestrians, so I'm considering getting a bike to reduce my commute time. I enjoy walking, though, and I imagine 25 minutes of walking each way is better exercise than 10 minutes of cycling.
