Over the last few days, I've had a ton of trouble with the Calgarypuck board and internet explorer, lots of 504 gateway errors.

I've now gone to Firefox, and I have to say its pretty slick

damn microsoft has done it again

I'd like to thank Mr. KG! I was having the same problems as well and have now switched over. I doubt I'll be going back to IE ever again !

What is the deal with FireFox?

Why is it so much better and what are these safety features you speak of?

The best thing about Firefox is the tabbed browsing. I couldn't live without it.

That, and all of the awesome extensions you can download, including forecastfox, adblock, tab clicking preferences, bugmenot, ieview (for the odd page that doesn't work right in firefox, or requires activex), etc.

Firefox rules!

Just a bump for all you using IE still.

GET OFF YOUR LAZY BUTTS AND DOWNLOAD FIREFOX

Seriously, I was just too lazy for a year but I am so glad that I have. Not only is it safer and faster, the tabbed browsing kicks ass for reading CP. You know in IE how you can right-click and say "open in new window" or something. Well, in firefox you can right click and open a webpage in a new tab for the same firefox window.

So now when I open up the forum, I just open up all the threads I want in a new tab (10-15 often), and it doesn't clutter up the windows taskbar with 10-15 different windows. Then I go through and read them all.

If that doesn't make much sense, which it probably doesn't, then JUST TRY IT OUT ONCE. You'll see what I mean and never go back.

Just do it

Edit: I swear to god, this thread needs to be bumped until every single CP poster is using Firefox, or at least not IE.

I will chime in with the minority view that I can't stand Firefox.

I have tried it before when these threads come up every six months and don't see what the fuss is about. I haven't found problems with IE and find Firefox to be a pain in the ass to use and just as slow if not worse at times than IE.

How can you not love the tabbed browsing. It's PERFECT for reading forums.

I mean, if you're using Opera then that's cool. But oh god, not IE. At very least for your computer's safety.

I don't have a problem reading the forums without it and don't really like using it anyways.

As far as my computers safety I haven't had problems in the past. Not really sure what safety concerns the should be anyways. If people want to read my university papers go ahead.

They don't want to read your papers, they want to use you to send out spam for Viagra, Cialis, and SUPAR SEKRET STOCK T!PS!!!

Or to be part of worldwide Denial Of Service attacks.

Not browser is perfectly safe, but the easiest computers to hack are owned by the most vulnerable users who generally use IE since it is already on their computer.

You can alter Firefox so that it looks and behaves very similar to IE (if you so desire).

Myself, I started using it when it was called Firebird (version 0.61) and have been happy with it ever since.

Does anyone else picture moon here as an old man stubbornly refusing to accept anything new?

Fair enough.

Not really familiar with why people would want to use my computer.

Anyways I just don't like using Firefox, but maybe will give it a try for about the fifth time and see if this time it seems okay. Maybe with the security concerns people have raised Iwill use it even though it isn't as good as IE for genreal surfing purposes.

I've been usong Firefox for about a year and a half now, and I love it. No way would I go backto IE.

Built into my navigation toolbar is current weather, and most importantly a link to google where all I have to do is slap in whatever I'm looking for and it opens the search results in a seperate tab. It makes me look real smart when bringing up facts and figures here at work.......especially with the older folk. They all think I'm some kind of magician because I can pull up information so quickly.

The site is down right now, but if you want to get a version of Firefox that looks like IE, keep an eye out for http://www.firefoxie.net/

It was up on Aug 10, but not working right now (I don't know why)
