Ducks Ducks sign Silfverberg to 4 year contract ($3.75 mil AAV)

Eric Stephens @icemancometh
Ducks have signed winger Jakob Silfverberg to a four-year contract.

Eric Stephens @icemancometh
Silfverberg will come in at $3.75 AAV. Had huge second half and playoffs for Ducks. Arguably best defensive forward.

Really? That seems like a management steal.

After the absurd Kesler and Bieksa contracts I thought Murray might have lost his head.

Silfverberg is 24 drafted in 2009 Backlund 26 and was drafted 2007 3.75 to 3.57 pretty comparable....

Great contract for the Ducks. Not exactly hard to convince players to stay and take a discount I would imagine.

Could easily be a steal given his amazing playoffs. He's good to great defensively and you can certainly see his scoring potential so I don't think anyone would be surprised to see him breakout in a big way making this a complete steal.

But on the other hand he's a soon-to-be 25 year old who's never cracked 40 points. Based on what he has shown in the NHL and that all but 1 year is UFA, this seems to be a pretty fair contract.

career high of 13 gaols.

everyone agrees that it is points that you get paid for.

yes, he's really good defensively, but I don't see this as any kind of steal for management

If he keep's improving should be a steal. Should be able to put up some nice numbers with Kesler for next 4 years.

I find the guy a little overrated. Not sure he belongs on a 2nd line.

they couldnt with Kesler

don't think this is really a steal, fair contract, eats up RFA years, Ducks are banking on him progressing to be a 20+ goal scorer

Whoa, in 6 years, they'll be paying three 36 yr olds (in Getlaf, Perry & Kesler), $23million.

I agree, but I like this deal. Those deals are horrible, no idea what he was thinking with those.

He was thinking the Ducks have a legitimate window to win the Cup in the next couple years if he kept those three guys together, and he'll worry about the tail end of the those contracts when the time comes.

Yeah, I'm sure the Kings and Hawks would deal with their contract nightmares a million times over to repeat the performances they've had. Anaheim has identified their window, which imo has been broadened by their excellent drafting and development system, and they're going for it.

Just as the flames should and will soon enough. .

Maybe not a steal but he's a lot better than Brandon Sutter who just got 4.4

He's pretty close to Frolik level right now with room to improve. I could easily see him scoring 70-80 goals and 160-200 points over the life of the deal while being a stud defensively. Great contract.

In fairness last year was his only full season in the league. If he improves on his 39 points from last year he's well worth the money.
