Don't think he's allowed to play for USA. If he gets asked to play in this tournament, it will be for the "young stars" team.

Yep, you're right. But he's on that team so I'll leave the congratulations and pretend I was drunk or something.

I hope Hartley gets named the coach of the Young Stars team. Depending on what the age cutoff is, that team could have Monahan, Bennett, Gaudreau, and Hamilton.

Yea, it's just a big gimmick IMO. I hope the Euro All Stars or Young Stars win just so we can look back at this and remember how lame this tournament was.

23 and younger as of Sept. 1, 2016.

I would think Hamilton is a lock.
Monahan and Gaudreau would be close to locks.
Bennett would be a longshot. It would depend on what he does this season.

Gaudreau is a lock.
If he's not on the U-23 team (which i doubt) then he will be on the US team.

Plus Hudler for Czech Republic, (at least if it's not the same morons choosing the team that chose their Olympic team), and Backlund for Sweden. Am I missing anyone else?

I'm just looking at some of the potential players for the under23 team - they are going to get murdered.
There are 5 locks on defense, IMO:
Ekblad - Hamilton
Trouba - Jones
Reilly
and there are a few locks on forward (yes, including Gaudreau). Almost all of the good young forwards are Cs - getting some RWs is going to be a challenge. Here are a couple thoughts I had (including a young Cdn line and a young US line):
MacKinnon - McDavid - Bennett (for fun - I don't think he'll be on the team)
Gaudreau - Eichel - Galchenyuk (US line)
Huberdeau - Couturier - ??? (checking line)
and then there are a bunch more guys that maybe fit somewhere:
RNH, Monahan, Pearson, Strome, Horvat, Lazar, Drouin, Jenner, Domi?...
It could get ugly.

Backlund could make Team Sweden.
Frolik, Hudler, and Smid should be there for the Czechs (assuming the crazy guy with the grudge against Hudler is gone and Smid is healthy). Frolik might be the only one who's still a Flame next year though.

I can't wait to watch that U23 team. They will be absolutely stacked.

The setup is definitely gimmicky and I would have preferred a playin tournament for the next tier countries. Bit this has people talking and I for one will be glued to the TV watching this.

Hiller could get some consideration for the Euro All Star team too.
