Share your "Dad Things" moments
Dad's do crazy and wonderful and embarrassing things. Share some of your stories, or stories you've read on the internet. For those of you who are dad's what are some things you've done to your kids to embarrass them? If you've done something wonderful for them, don't feel shy about sharing that either Even just sharing memories of dad's who have passed on is welcome.
I hope one day I become a dad, but until such time, I'll begin the sharing.
If you ever sat in front of the TV as a kid and you blocked his view in our house, all he would say is "Your dad isn't a glass-smith" (In Croatian). In my dad's native language it makes a lot of sense, but it basically means He's not a glass smith, ere go, you aren't made of glass, ere go, GTFO of the way because I can't see the TV through you. Oh immigrant dads!
He absolutely hated it when my mom got cold and she'd turn up the heat. Complain all day long about high heating bill LOL.

Dad, I'm hungry
Hi Hungry, I'm your dad
My dad had a slight Dutch accent and says lots of words funny. Rod and Wendy was "Rotten Wendy", Seattle became Shattle, etc
Funny how I'm 19 years older than my 16 year old son and he thinks I'm as lame/corny as I thought my dad was at the same age. Hopefully he comes back to have as good of a relationship with me as I do with my dad now. Crazy parallel there

here are my two:
almost 5 yrs ago we took the kids down to Mexico for the first time - on the way home my daughter (5 at the time) and i were in the same row but there was an aisle between us - one of us bored and passed a note to the other and we passed notes back and fourth for about 2 hrs. On one of my notes I drew a picture of a tortoise (tortuga) and after that trip i started to call her tortuga. whever we go someplace for vacation, i try and find a little ceramic turtle to bring back to her as a momento of the trip.
my best memory thing for my son was watching his team win the city championship for thier Pee-Wee division and he was in net - while i was not the named goalie coach last season, I stepped in to help when the goalie coach broke his wrist - both my son and the other goalie stepped up their play and thier team went on a 10 game winning streak to end the season. Watching my son play well in a meaningful game made my hockey dream for him come true. My wife snapped a great picture of him jumping off the ice with his hands in the air and the scoreboard in the background

I remember all the road trips I used to take with my dad for his men's league soccer team tournaments. Not only did it help us bond and become so close, I met my best friend through one of his teammates.
I also remember very vividly when I was 10, and my dad was going on a trip to Hong Kong. I was told for weeks that he was going alone, and I was devastated because I would miss him and wanted to go see my grandparents and family too. We took him to the airport, and I hadn't clued in at all that my mom had dressed me up for so early in the morning and had taken my travelling backpack with us. When it came time to say goodbye to my dad at security, my mom gave me a hug and told my sister to give me a hug goodbye. My jaw hit the floor as I went back and forth between my parents, and I bawled my eyes out in appreciation. It was, and still is, probably the best trip I've ever been on.
I'm so thankful I have a son, so I can try to replicate those same feelings of happiness I had with my dad, and make them our own. It's still so early in his life (14 months), but I already enjoy doing anything I can to make him laugh uncontrollably.

On road trips, when we were being too noisy, my dad would say. "You only have a limited amount of words you can use in your life, once you use them up you die... so shut up and live longer"
With my kids I pretend to be a slide by tucking my head towards my knees.... My 4yr old and 16 month old will climb onto my back and then slide down the front. Yesterday they did this for 30 minutes while I read stuff on my phone. Multi-tasking

My Dad used to take me on his summer business trips where he drove from town to town talking to his clients which were hotels.
He taught me the effective use of the F-Bomb, which I used to his great embarrassment when my Grandma and Grandpa drove me to a event and someone cut them off.
A 8 year old dropping a 5 minute profanity laced rant in front of his elderly grandparents isn't so awesome and they knew who to blame for my language.

I sip make-believe tea out of a pink tea-cup because my 20 month old daughter pours it for me out of her pretend tea-pot. She also makes me blow on it to cool it down because it could be hot.

My son is only about 17 weeks so I don't have a ton of moments so far.
When we were in the hospital just after he was born (literally) I was holding him and he started fussing. The nurses were still tending to my wife and one of them just told me "Put your finger in his mouth!". So I did and he started sucking like crazy. Just a weird little bonding moment minutes into his life and into being a father.
Nowadays I just have fun finding creative ways to make him laugh. Just a few weeks ago my wife told me he had been trying to roll over back to front all day and struggling so hard. About ten minutes after I got home from work he gave it another go and made it for the first time with me egging him on. Felt kind of cool that he 'waited' for me to do it. And every time I come home and see him and that big goofy toothless smile comes across his face, makes everything worth it.
Being a dad is cool, even early

My Dad is a clever old bugger, he once got a traffic ticket and the officer gave him a choice. The officer offered him either careless driving or dangerous driving. Naturally the dangerous driving ticket is far worse to get but he told the officer that's the one he wanted. The officer obliged, and later my dad took the ticket to court. His argument was [insert his traffic violation here], it was actually a case of careless driving and not dangerous driving. He got off entirely.

Getting a bit sappy here, but I'd like to take a sec to send out some step-dad love.
My parents split when I was 11, and my brother was 10. We were old enough to know what was going on (for the most part) and, as is the case with most kids, took the 'side' of the parent who we didn't live with...meaning our dad could do no wrong while mom struggled and did everything 'wrong' (in our tiny little opinions).
Our step-dad came into the picture when I was 13, and my brother and I, quite frankly, made it hell for him. To this day, I still don't know where or how he found the reserves of patience to put up with us, treat us well (and firmly when needed...a lot..), and love our mom.
Stepping into a fractured family with two hurt boys entering their teen years couldn't have been easy, and both my brother and I each had our own special way of showing our displeasure and acting up. Our step-dad put up with it all.
I honestly don't know how. There must have been days that after my brother and I were at school or in bed or out of earshot that he ranted and raved and pulled his hair out and wondered what the **** he was still doing here. But he never left. He put up with it all, he dealt with it all, and through it all we almost never saw him lose his temper or his cool.
He's been in my life for 25 years now, and I've learned a few things from him, to be sure. Among them all, is how proud I am to call him "my dad."

I remember my dad saying to me when I was 10-ish...
"Only wussies put cream and sugar in their coffee. Don't be a wuss. Drink your coffee black, like a man."
That was some sage advice. I've never forgotten that.

Dad would always end his disciplinary lectures to me with "how does that grab you?"
It was a question I never dared to answer.

Not a dad story but a grandpa story. I think I was about 8 years old or so. I really wanted roller blades. My birthday was about 6 months away and my grandpa said the neighbour kid had a birthday next week and he wanted rollar blades. He was about the same size as me and had the same feet size as me so he was wondering if I could come to the store with him to try some on so he could buy them for the neighbour. Being the completely oblivious kid I was I said sure. When I opened the present he got me 6 months later he had the biggest grin on his face. Still to this day, one of the best gifts I've ever got.

I'll share mine from tonight. I've been living at my aunts in Armstrong, BC off and on and literally walked in the door this afternoon, in Calgary, and my dad was working from home. I sold my truck a month or two ago to pay for some major vet bills/pay down loans and been sharing my Dad's truck to haul with. Being the bratty 20 something year old I am, I came home and told my Dad I was taking his truck to go to a barrel race tonight. He said he'd come with me, paid for my fuel, literally got body slammed into some alley panels while trying to get my horse into the arena (he's pretty sore), took my horse to cool her out after I came out and called my vet and boyfriend to get some frustrations out. And knowing him, he'll probably tell me to put my latest vet bill on his M/C. Even though my Dad has said multiple times "I thought I'd never have to pay another vet bill after we sold the dairy farm", he's paid my fair share.

When I was little and out camping with my dad, both me and my brother were told very seriously that crying sounds were really bad to make in the forest. To bears, the sound of crying is the same sounds a baby dear would make.
I've played the same card with my kids when we are out camping. It makes me giggle and think of my dad every time I hear them tell each other to stop crying or a bear will come.

My three year old dropped a perfect f-bomb last weekend when he lost control of his toy wheel barrow and dumped a load in the wrong place. He was really mad and it just came out perfectly, it would have made his speech therapist proud. This should be on the mom-ism thread though, not dad's fault.
