Kesler signs extension with Ducks
Eric Stephens
✔ @icemancometh
Kesler's new deal is huge. Six years, $41.25 million. ($6.875M AAV).

Good signing for them. The exact deal I hope Gio signs.

Yikes. That seems like an awful contract on the surface.

Why would they want that? Kesler is a proven loser.

Gross. They'll regret that. His best days are already over. They still need to sign all their D next year and won't have room

He was really good in the POs but that's a long term and a lot of money.

Anaheim has now spent nearly $50 million to extend Kesler and Bieksa until they're 38 and 37.
Yeesh.

Everyone saying that Kesler deal is way too much money for a guy who'll be 31 is just wrong. (It doesn't start until 2016-17. He'll be 32.)
|
Yup.

6.875M for a 32 to 37 year old who hasn't hit 50 points since the 2010-2011 season. Short term they keep the top 3 forwards together, but not a huge fan of this deal from the Ducks perspective.
In the 2020-2021 season, assuming they don't get moved, the Ducks will have a combined cap hit of 24M for 36 year olds Getzlaf, Perry and Kesler.

That's going to be one aging forward core in a few years. They better hope they win a Cup in the next couple of years because after that it could get ugly for them.

Ducks have a lot of cap room but have a lot of RFAs next year. If they plan to win a cup, next season's the time to do it
