Hm. The Stars were a high-powered offense type of team last year whose achilles heel was spotty play from the blue line. And they trade Trevor Daley for an aging goal-scoring winger?

Good move, Getting Stephen Johns too helps reduce the loss of Daley.

Stephen Johns is one of those young up and comers who were kind of buried behind TVR and Pokka but is close to NHL full time. It's a strong move.

How did the stars end up getting the best and second best piece in this trade?

Dallas just got much scarier in the West IMO. Johns is ready and Sharp adds to an already lethal top 6.

Anyone got the numbers on how this affects the Hawks cap situation?

Teams are tired of bailing Chicago out of cap problems.

Sharp: 5.9 cap
Johns: .8 cap

Daley: 3.3 cap
Garbutt: 1.8

Not much savings there at all. 1.7m in cap savings I think?

Blackhawks have traded 2 promising defencemen prospects in Johns and Palliotta in the last few weeks.

per Mike Heika, Stars are retaining part of Garbutt's salary.

Also look for Chicago to flip Daley so they can sign Odyua.

Not a bad trade I guess, trading Daley just destroyed their defense for the 15-16 season.

One thing that should be noted is that the Blackhawks traded Sharp inside their own division.

That is how much better the Stars offer was than anyone else (although granted Sharp's limited NTC could have been a factor)

Usually Bowman trades to the Eastern conference in situations like these.
