It's too bad he ended up with a stinkin' Oilers team with bad management. He might of been a big star if he would've stayed with Montreal. Heh, Iggy destroys all combatants, just like Scott Stevens destroys Lindros!

Played with him in a golf tourney once, very down to earth guy, smart and well spoken. fully expect him to be a media guy soon.

It's a real shame everything that happened to Souray in Edmonton and how he was treated. After the '04 lockout, him and Markov were one of the best PP duo's in the league for a bunch of years. He even had a pretty stellar season with Edmonton. A real shame how oilers management treated him.

There was something special about our leader in those years being a 50 goal scorer that would admirably drop his gloves and dish out beat-downs to other big tough players in a gentlemanly fashion.

I wonder how it feels to get beat up by a guy who's scored 50 goals?

Loved Souray as an Oiler. He was treated like garbage and that was really unfortunate.

I was a bit surprised to see his comments on playing the trap. He makes it sound like it was easy to understand and they won a lot of games with it. Better than Oilers hockey!

That was a great article. I really enjoyed the read and the humble tone.

I also like in that fight how Iginla left his one glove on until Souray removed his helmet.

Thanks for posting that link. Terrific little article.

The bit about Daneyko was great. And the way he mentioned Iggy, you have to think #12 contacted him off-ice after the separated shoulder incident and apologized/reached out. Class on both sides.

Good and sincere hockey life story. I am starting to like PT postings a lot.

Yeah, what was with that? That's when I was still living there, Oiler fans mocked him when he complained aloud about being sick of the losing. Guess they weren't yet?

In our family Christmas draw back then I bought my cousin's die-hard Oiler fan husband a Souray, framed Oilers picture. I had no idea Oiler fans hated him so much until I saw his reaction when he opened it. Probably the only place he played where his own fans hated him.

Funny how he immediately went back to being effective again in Dallas after leaving the Oilers.

I'll bet he could have remained a good player for a while longer if the Oilers didn't bung up his medical treatment. What a joke of a franchise.

Congrats to Souray for a good career!

It read a lot like a Cracked article in the sense they didn't filter it or any of the profanity, to appease to anyone's sensibilities. It feels more like a conversation you would have with the guy just shooting the bull on a golf course or something. Really refreshing. And I always really liked him as a player, especially when he was an Oiler, bashing the Oilers.

Good luck in retirement.

I remember him being one of the few Oilers I would have accepted on the Flames with absolutely no qualms. Beast on the PP, and as we quickly saw, was an obvious thorn in the side of the dogsh*t culture that was slowly brewing up there at the time. Can't believe they did the guy like that. Absolutely loved hearing him call them out.

I didn't know it until right now, but I watched him play in juniors when he was with Quesnel. I grew up in Trail and went to watch the Smoke Eaters games. I sold programs for a few years and operated the scoreboard for a few more. I don't recall him at all, but still neat to know I saw him.

The penultimate season I ran the board was the one season Shawn Horcoff played for Trail. He was phenomenal, scoring 50 goals and 46 assists in 47 games and won MVP. He was so good to watch as a 16 year old in a small town. The next year he left to go to the BCJHL and scored 49 goals and 96 points in 58 games, with many of those games against Trail.
