Just Energy - Scam?
My door bell rang tonight. A young man from Just Energy asked me to show him my energy bill. I was out of my mind and I did. He said he is from Just Energy. My electricity and natural gas rate is too high (from Enmax) and Just Energy could offer a much better rate. I signed up for 5 years.
After that I checked the internet and found only bad reviews regarding this company. Now I am really worried.
Is anyone using Just Energy? Are they legit? Should I switch to them or stay with Enmax?
I have 10 days to cancel this agreement. Would like to hear comments from CP regarding them. Thanks.

They are shady, who knows if the rate is even cheaper or not. You might want to read the details, you could start out on a cheaper teaser rate that goes up with time. Whenever these guys come and start their dishonest spiel I usually close the door on them.

Someone came to your door...and you just trust them and sign a contract? Then after that, look online and find nothing but negative reviews? And you have to ASK if you should back out?
Here's hoping that they let you back out of 5 year contract you signed...

There is a thread on this where you will find plenty of info suggesting that you should cancel immediately.
Ironically enough, my direct energy bill was ridiculous this month! The floating price per GJ more than doubled on feb 28. Maybe Just Energy is out in force in light of this, trying to take advantage of some ticked off customers

I had one at my door today to, I live in Lethbridge. Told him I was not interested 3 times and he always "had an answer", I laughed at the last one which was about how they are using green energy "you know all those windmills that are outside of town..." I just told him to leave then shut the door.
There 5 year lock in may be good, maybe not but never get anything from a door to door salesman, unless it is girl guide cookies. I wish they would come back, but really they are a rip off to I can buy two bags of Oreo's for $5 when they are on sale.

The natural gas rate is much much cheaper than Enmax. Just is offering $5.99/GJ, while Enmax is charging $10.43/GJ.
BUT.... will call/ email them tomorrow to cancel my contract. Rather pay a little bit more but have a peace of mind than regretting this decision for 5 years.
I just could not believe that I fell for that. Thought I was smarter than that... ugh...

Not true, and that's how they suck you in. You are comparing Just Energy's current fixed rate to Enmax's older floating February rate. That high rate has already dropped drastically. It only peaked due to high demand and low inventory.
Enmax, if you wish, can sign you up for 5 years at $5.99/GJ. Their floating rate is currently $7.5/GJ. On average, the floating price is less than $4/GJ, so you lose on fixed during most months.

Hopefully Just Energy let's you get out of it hassle free. If not, you'll need this:

^ Great post and it underscores why these guys go door-to-door. They don't want people to have time to do any research and make a educated decision. They use high pressure tactics and hope to sucker you into signing up for a long-term contract.

Contacted them by phone this morning. They agreed to cancel the switch even though they tried to sell me $5.39/GJ for three years before agreeing.
I insisted in cancelling the switch. They agreed. A written confirmation will be sent out. Hopefully this is the end of it.

When you were checking the internets, did this search come up for you at all? http://forum.calgarypuck.com/search....archid=5980213
There are at least four threads already on it.

I don't know much about them but their Calgary office is in a building I list and the employees look like they should be hanging out in front of Scotia Centre and 7th ave. They are always smoking and spitting on the ground out front, the worst.

And then you wait 10 days for the written confirmation... and then it doesn't come. You phone asking where it is. They say "What cancellation? You never called us. And because it's over 10 days, YOU"RE STUCK WITH US!!!!"
I'd make sure I get that in writing TODAY!

Don't sweat it. I thought the same thing at first, and then realized how many search results would have come up with the words "just" and "energy."

I would love to have a fake bill from another energy company showing some stupid rate that nobody could possibly match or beat just for these occasions. I do it all the time when I get companies calling me to lower my credit card processing rates and the befuddlement on the other end is excellent.

You can't compare anything based on the rates of mid-January thru mid-February this year. There was a DRASIC price spike due to many factors that cause a large price increase in a short period of time this winter.
