NHL Free Agent Frenzy July 1st.
Thread to talk about the Free Agent Market.
Teams can talk to UFAs starting this Thursday. No contract $ or term is supposed to be negotiated at that time.
Chris Johnston @reporterchris
Matt Beleskey is heading to free agency, per #Ducks GM Bob Murray. Says team's best offer was "rejected immediately."
Joel Ward is reportedly looking for a 4 year deal.
Devan Dubnyk is reportedly looking for a $5million per year contract long term.

I can see a team like Toronto wanting Beleskey and overpaying. He's a good player but teams should be cautious of the 1 good year before UFA.

My favorite thing this year is going to be seeing how much Beleskey gets paid. I swear it's going to be minimum $4mil/4yrs. And I'm going to laugh and laugh......unless it's the Flames that did it, then I will cry and cry.

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
WASH GM Brian MacLellan says he is trying to close with UFAs Jay Beagle and Eric Fehr. It is reported team and Joel Ward disagree on...
Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Term. MacLellan didn't want to say much about Mike Green, but it appears unlikely anything gets done before July 1

Wouldn't surprise me if the Flames are going to target Dubnyk via UFA.
Big goalie, in his prime, really only one bad season, and his contract length would likely take the team right into the years where Gillies/McDonald will be ready to take over.
If they get him, I believe they will trade Hiller and then let Ortio continue to develop as the back up.

Guy has one 22 goal season and he rejects 4M per? If the prices are that high this UFA period I hope the Flames stay pat.

Yeah, that is wild. A team will regret giving him that money/term or more. Stay away, Flames.
Looks like if the Flames want to add to the forward group, it will be by trade.
I'm still interested in Andrej Sekera, Mike Green, or Cody Franson on D. Scared to hear their price, though.

Doesn't hurt to see what other teams might ask. anyone would check it out at least. His 1 good season might make him 25 million dollars on this contract, so why not see what's available.
You might get some dumb team to do a 5X5+ deal or something because of his age.
4X4 isn't a bad contract. The average player makes 3.55 million (71/20), so Beleskey being paid slightly more than average is about right.

3 years 9 million for Joel Ward? Maybe 10.5? I think he'd be an awesome fit here

I'd love Beleskey on the Flames but no way I pay him more than 4mil/year

That sounds like a good Treliving-ish deal. But I'm pretty sure he'll be offered more money and term elsewhere.

I wonder if he just doesn't want to play for the ducks.

Why? I just don't get it. He's 34 years old, he's broken 20 goals once, he's a bottom 6 forward.
We have zero need for a player like that. Keep pushing our homegrown talent (Bouma, Ferland, Arnold, Colborne) in the bottom 6 alongside Backlund and Stajan. Bleh, just no need for a player like Ward - especially at that age and the fact he's looking for term.

I'd definitely be in favour of this. I don't see 5M being too much for Dubnyk. I'd even go higher to keep the term lower. He's probably looking for 5M per year for 5 years. Would he take 7.5M per for 2 years? The Flames cap crunch most likely comes after 2, so we can re-evaluate then when the deal expires. For Dubnyk, he gets a lot of money up front and 3 more years to earn more. He could earn a lot more overall that way.

If you believe that Dubnyk is a quality starting goalie, then $5 million is actually a bargain IMO.

7.5m gets you dubnyk and his autographed Craig Mactavish/Wayne Gretzky oilers promo dvd. Not a bad option however.
