With ramo being signed that leaves 6 million for today

I'd like to see frolic come in and solidify that shut down line with backlund

at what cost though? 5 years $5M? I think that's what it would take and I doubt the Flames can fit that in.

Not sure I'm with you on the salary cap increases. Good article though. I think it's really important not to blow your wad this year. This season is really an assessment season of what you got. Luckily they have the flexibility to do just that.

Nice article.

For the most part, I think the cap hits are reasonable. There are a few that I think will be a little higher. I think Colborne will get around $2 million unless he regresses. I also would assume that Bennett is at $5.5m along with Gaudreau & Monahan. He has two years to prove himself, and I think that he is likely to have a solid first two NHL years just like the other two. But obviously, those contract number could change quite a bit depending on term.

I'm not sure they should pay Hudler big money. Agree with you that they should move him.

Great article.

I agree that the acquisition of Hamilton changes the team from rebuild to: 'time to start putting things together'.

However, I don't share your concern regarding the cap.

Yes, they need to sign Giordano, Monahan and Gaudreau next year (with Bennett the year after).

However, the flip side is that over the next couple years, a lot of veterans will be replaced by kids as they mature into full time roles.

Jones, Raymond, Wideman, Engelland, Stajan, Smid, Bollig, and Hiller add up to over $27M. Some of them may be replaced by FAs, but many will be replaced by ELCs.

The cap crunch is a ways off yet.

(And notice that doesn't even include Hudler - who I agree probably needs to be traded)
