I wonder if Hodgson could recover if he converted to RW and go in shape.
Seemed to have the skills but lost his commitment along the way.

Amazing how these teams would just rather give up players and buy them out instead of trading them with a surplus asset to get something of need. I remember Stalberg and Richards being part of those rumors earlier this year.
Hodgson - my how far he's fallen.

I think they're giving up on Hodgson too early. He's only 25 and is just one year removed from a 44 point season. It's not his fault that last year's Sabres team was historically bad.

would also need to tell his daddy to stay out of the way, and not complain to the GM about playing time

Also a good point.
Being waived and bought out by the worst team in the league might help humble him a bit.

Remember when we were laughing at the Canucks after the Kassian/Hodgson trade. Now it looks pretty even. At least the Canucks didn't sign Kassian to a bad contract.

Not sure we should be giving up on Hodgson already. He was REALLY bad last year though. Even adjusted for our garbage season he was still outscored by guys like Nick Deslauriers, Johann Larsson, and Brian Flynn. For someone who doesn't bring anything other than scoring, that's obviously terrible.
Oh well -- I suppose with all the new acquisitions they just didn't see a role for him anymore, and knew more about what was happening in the room than we do. Tim Murray continues to jettison assets and contracts from the Darcy Regier era.

I'm sure they have tried to trade them and no one wants them.
If you're at a point where you're willing to pay a guy to not play for you, it's a safe bet that you've exhausted all other options.

in before someone says we should pick them up.
Hodgson looks promising before he plays for the Canucks then traded to Sabres. He was very good in junior but I guess getting that concussion problem and that controversy that Canucks is making him play even when he is injured sets him back. Stalberg looks good in his first few seasons in the NHL so no clue what happened to him.

Yeah, Buffalo won't miss him in the slightest. They're adding Evander Kane, Ryan O'Reily, Sam Reinhart and Jack Eicel to the forward ranks this fall, a guy like Hodgson is just going to keep being pushed down the depth chart.

The gamble with Hodgson is that if you give him another chance but still have to buy him out next year, the cost will double.
Right now, he's 25 years-old, so a buyout is only 1/3 of his remaining contract spread over double its remaining length. After he turns 26, it becomes 2/3.

Ah, did not know that. I guess it makes sense now.

People had issues with Del Zotto and he had a great rebound season last year. I wouldn't mind a flier on Hodgson.

trying out Hodgson on the RW might be something to try, like a Seto experiment

Yeah, Hodgson is worth a Setoguchi type flyer. Then again, he may just be hapy to take his 12 million and ride into the sunset. Who knows.

Have to wonder if those back issues are still hampering his career. Almost seems similar to Phaneuf and his hip issue where he was never the same player after.

He'll get picked up by someone like the Leafs or Yotes.
