Oilers trade Marincin to Leafs for Brad Ross and Pick
Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
TOR acquires Martin Marincin from EDM for Brad Ross and a pick
Wasn't he supposed to be a top pairing guy for the Oilers?

He *was* a top pairing guy for the Oilers for a while.
What a disgrace of a hockey team.

Remember when the Oilers asked Chara to mentor Marincin because they had huge expectations for him?
Also, remember when 150lb Paul Byron outmuscled Marincin to set up this?

Odd trade - Marincin is a much better player than Ross imo. Depends on the pick I guess.

Acquiring Hamilton made him expendable.
Wait...what?

Awful management of a player and an even worse trade. If they retrain him he could be an NHL regular in another season.

Hope the pick is good Edm... Ross is tough but isn't a full time ahler yet at 23.
They have had a pretty bad draft after getting McDavid. Traded two very valuable picks for a slow dman whose stock has been taking a baertshi. Desperate move when what they need is two experienced top 4 dmen.
A year of Talbot for 3 late picks is the only decent move. If they reup him and get some defence to protect him it could work out.

they are ALWAYS horrible outside of the safe lottery picks. This year, they didn't even try to blow their picks as usual and decided to just trade them instead. With their abysmal draft record, I would probably do that too.

Odd trade, most of my Oil fan buddies really liked him. I don't think he was ever going to be the top pairing guy they thought he would but I still thought he had NHL potential.
