So much for the theory that only elite UFAs have their rights traded.

I believe in the Pony Power

^To heep - I would pinpoint Soderberg as one of the top free agent targets this off-season. A lot of fans may not know him but based on all factors (age, # of years in the tougher NHL, size, two-way game, skill, etc) he should be at the top of a lot of teams' lists.

Bye Bye ROR. Avs will be happier than Sheet to pay Soderberg 5x5 instead of ROR's stupid asking price.
I guarantee Soderberg and the Avs have something in place.

According to the Avs beat reporter, yes.
Mike Chambers @MikeChambers
Carl Soderberg, 29, is a left-shooting C. Big guy. Is this the beginning of Ryan O'Reilly trade? My guess is yes.

Yeah, Soderberg is one of the best FA's this year. I'd say just a shade under ROR in terms of everything (Skill, skating, intangibles)

Perfect UFA crop to be swinging for numbers like that this year. There's going to be some serious overpayment in the next month.

Well ROR has one year left. He will be a UFA after next year. Sakic has hinted that he doesn't want ROR as a pending UFA as a distraction on the Avs.

sign Soderberg, trade ROR for help on the blueline. Not a bad plan.

I really like Ryan O'Reily but he's an awkward player to find a fit for. Is he a bonafide number one center? Probably not. 2nd line center? Probably better then that. Whoever pays him to be a number one guy is probably going to be disappointed but he'll make too much to slot into a 2nd line role.
A team could probably live with 5-6 million, "elite" 2nd line money like Kesler makes, but he's going to get 2-3 million more.

Exactly. Did you post to contend with what I posted? ROR is asking for X dollars and years right now, maybe it's just him wanting out of COL ASAP and may not ask for that much from the team that acquires him.

He's one of the better players out there for sure in a weak UFA year. I remember a few posters arguing though that only elite players have their UFA rights traded anymore, which clearly isn't the case!

Sorry the way you worded it read like you were saying O'Reilly was UFA this summer.
Get what you are trying to say now.
