NHL Draft Success: Calgary Flames Specific (poll added on Flames pick tomorrow)
Last one of the four day series
Today I look at the Flames in particular, their ten drafts in the study by value and compare it to both the 2014 and 2015 draft coming up tomorrow.
Finally I look at pick number 15
Enjoy and comment!

I jumped ahead to the stuff about the 15th pick because - well - that's the fun stuff right now.
Would Take Some Off the Board Picks:
Crouse, Barzal, Rantanen, Werenski
Most Likely Group to be a Flame:
Meier, Connor, Zboril, Konecny, White, Merkley, Svechnikov
I think there is actually a middle group here - as I think it would still take some fortunate luck for Meier or Connor to fall to the Flames - though if Meier does I think they pass as well.
In between "Would take some off the board picks" and "most likely" I would put a trio of players in a group I call "Potential Fallers"
Potential Fallers
Meier, Barzal, Connor
I see it being about a 50/50 possibility that one of those guys is there at 15. Less than 25% chance of Barzal or Connor which would be amazing.
If it is White, the board will likely melt-down, but the more I read about the pick the more I don't mind it.
I'm was originally predicting Zboril but in comments it seems like they are leaning towards a forward - so I'm going to say Merkley.
Or a move down where they draft Carlo in the early 20s and grab a high 2nd.

The Flames have said they're taking the player with the highest ceiling. This is not Colin White, puppies everywhere just breathed a sigh of relief.

The comparisons of White to Larkin are very interesting - a guy who has a certain role right now but skills the exceed that role.
I don't really understand why people object to him as a potential pick.

White has all the makings of Ryan O'Reilly 2.0 but right handed. No trying to pump his tires but if they take him @15 who are we to argue. Thing is with White though. I really feel like the Bruins could go "off the board" and take him @14. Seems like their type of guy all day long.
Connor I feel is a massive steal @15 if he makes it there. Massive. And I don't feel like the NCAA draft eligible players like White or Connor will not sign as the Flames have been very successful in attracting good NCAA stock the past few seasons. Weisbrod and Feaster started it, Conroy took over.

8. Colin White
Ht/Wt: 6′ 0″/175 lbs
Position: C/RW
Team: USA U18 NTDP
Prospect Profiler Notes: Patrice Bergeron 2.0 – does all the small things coaches covet
Disruption Factor: White might just be one of the most underappreciated prospects of this draft class. His ranking in various scouting services is all over the map. In the end, GMs and scouts alike may liken him to this year’s version of Dylan Larkin or Curtis Lazar and not let him get past this middle of the first round. Here’s where he has been ranked by various outlets:
14 – McKeens – Top 30, Final
15 – ISS – Top 30, Final
17 – THW – The Next Ones Top 120, Final
19 – FC – Top 30, Final
19 – TSN – Bob McKenzie’s Poll of NHL Scouts, Top 75, Final
23 – HP – Top 30, Final
31 – NHL Combined – Top 305, Final
32 – TSN – Craig Button, Top 100, Final

we've done it I know, but I always find my view on draft eve or draft day is different than in late May or early June.
For the purpose of the poll I'm going to assume a bunch of guys won't be there, and then simply pick your favourite of the guys that are "possible"
will they be there? Probably not in a few (many) cases but it will certainly give us the CP fingers crossed view when things roll out tomorrow night.

It's been Svechnikov for me since the end of the playoffs. Still is.
In the very Odd circumstance I would be beyond cloud 9 if they get:
Rantanen
Provorov
I'll be very happy with:
Zacha
Connor
Barzal
Konecny
Kylington
Guryanov
Just okay with with:
Zboril
Merkely
White
Eriksson Ek
Disappointed with but will get over it:
Crouse
Roy
Boeser
Flat out think it's an unwise move:
Chabot
Bittner

This, essentially. If Barzal or Connor are on the board, they'd be a godsend (minor preference to the right handed shot Barzal).
Getting into more realistic picks, I'm pretty much on the Boeser wagon. Just brimming with offensive potential. His PPG is identical to Gaudreau's at the same age in the same league... wait til he adds some skating the way Monahan did.

Voted Connor only because he was on the list. I think Treliving would sprint to the podium to pick him if he were still around.
Not many guys on that list I'd be disappointed with. Can't say I'm high on Merkley or Konecny because we need size, and there are forwards with size still available that appear to have just as much skill.
Dumb guess, but I bet we trade down for more 2nds and flip them for a goalie.

Would love for Connor to be there - but doubt he will be. None the less that's my vote. I think it will be Merkley they take.

If were picking at 15 and no one falls I would pick Svechnikov. My view has not changed in this way.
I think at 15 there are alot of options though. I would seriously consider moving back a few spots to pick up another pick. Then package those picks and get Carlo! Guy is a beast and is something this organization lacks dearly. I hate trading down but in this group of 15 -20 there are alot of options.
I think there will be some surprises tomorrow. Kylington getting drafted sooner than expected and Konecky and Merkley falling. Not falling much but to picks around 20.
Hoping the Oilers draft Sprong at 16 and continue to ignore their defense and goaltending!

If going forward, Connor or Svechnikov. If D, Zboril. Otherwise trade down.
We really need a forward that has a great shot, with a quick release. We have enough playmakers.

I'd be good with Chabot or Zboril but my guess is they take Merkley..
Also trade 2 seconds for a 20s pick and take Oliver Kylington if he is still on the board.

Svechnikov or Bittner. I think both are going to end up being solid scoring wingers in the NHL.

I picked Connor because the choice is there, but I don't know how realistic it is that he will really be an option. Same with Meier.
