Red Deer reaches 100,000 people
Alberta’s third-largest city has reached a milestone after inching towards it for years.
Mayor Tara Veer says Red Deer’s population has officially passed 100,000.
This year’s municipal census for the central Alberta city sits at 100,807.

I thought they had like 150k, I guess you learn something everyday. Red Deer's one of those cities that you just kind of pass through.
"Welcome to Red Deer; Enjoy your pass through!".

I did, because I literally have no idea about anything that happens in that city ever, statistic or event wise. The last "News" I heard about Red Deer was when they held the Calgary Rush concert there due to the flood in 2013, and I only heard that because it involved Calgary.

So where would people rather live given the choice- Lethbridge or Red Deer?

Ugh, tough choice, one I've had to make before.
Lethbridge = Good people, city is kinda meh
Red Deer = Nice City, but people kinda meh
I use winters as the tie breaker, which Lethbridge wins. But frankly not happy with either, I'd choose Edmonton over both.

Here let me help:
2019 Canada Winter Games are being held in Dead Rear.
2016 Memorial Cup is being held in Dead Rear.
Also, the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame is located there (well in othe fringe of Dead Rear).

What exactly is the criteria for a Census Metropolitan Area? I know that Kelowna and Abbotsford now have CMA's. What would the Red Deer CMA encompass?
-Sylvain Lake (12,000+)
-Lacombe (12,000+)
-Blackfalds (8,000)
-Penhold (3,500)
-Innisfail (8,500)
150,000 sounds about right. Possibly more...

I am not sure I was speaking out my pooper.
Edit: Wiki says:
Quote:
Statistics Canada defines a census metropolitan area (CMA) as an area consisting of one or more adjacent municipalities situated around a major urban core. To form a CMA, the metropolitan area must have a population of at least 100,000, at least half within the urban core. To be included in the CMA, adjacent municipalities must have a high degree of integration with the core, as measured by commuter flows derived from census data.[8] As of the Canada 2011 Census, there were 33 CMAs in Canada, including six with a population over one million—Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Ottawa, Calgary and Edmonton.[9]

Statistics Canada doesn't actually recognize a CMA for Red Deer. Just a census agglomeration, which is only the city itself.
But for the region, add the about 20,000 people in Red Deer County.

There is a rumour that the county wants to add another 40,000 people in and around gasoline alley, but infastructure is holding it up (at least that was the last I heard).
