Icon32 Wild put Matt Cooke on waivers for buy-out purposes

http://www.startribune.com/matt-cook...ext/308195341/

Quote:
The Wild, looking to clear cap space this offseason, has placed veteran Matt Cooke on waivers. If he clears, the next route would be a buyout.

Cooke, 36, who had an injury-ravaged season and was limited to only 29 regular-season games and seven playoff games, has one more year left on his contract at a $2.5 million cap hit with a $3 million salary.

I'm expecting to talk to his agent soon. GM Chuck Fletcher couldn't be reached for comment.

As I reported last week on my podcast with Jim Souhan, Cooke was being shopped heading into draft week.

I'll also be back soon with a blog update on a number of other Wild topics.

Good. League would be much better off without him in it. Hopefully no one else touches him.

Buy this guy out and get him the F out of the league. Changed player my ass. He should have been banned years ago. Shame on any GM/organization who signs him to another contract.

He ruined my favorite players career. Finally a chance for him to be out of the league

We should pick him up off waivers. A forward version of Schlemko 2.0

It was hard to support the Wild - my son is a huge Wild fan and I got caught up in their run this year. Every time I'd get high on them, Cooke would come out and I was reminded how disgusted I was he was still playing there.

Good riddance.

I assume you mean Savard but unfortunately you need to be more specific than that

The Wild still have a few key RFA guys to sign and are tight for cap space. Realistically this frees up about 1.3 million in cap space as Cook's cap hit is 2.5 million, and a guy to replace him will run 700 or so. I'm guessing they're still having issues in wanting to get rid of Backstrom or else he'd be up too.

Yeah Backstrom has had or is going to have surgery and the CBA doesn't allow you to buyout injured players.

Lecavalier was also never the same after Cooke got him. What a POS. Thank god Karlsson seems to be pretty much 100%. (though he may never be as good as he could've been with 2 intact Achilles tendons)

I heard that the surgery thing was posing a problem for the Wild. Although I thought if the player agreed to be bought out, than you could buy out an injured player, but that was last CBA with Chris Drury. Granted in the case of Backstrom, I can see why he wouldn't agree to the buyout, as this is likely his last contract.

Scott Stevens hit guys hard with legal checks IMO. Cooke is a punk who broke the rules consistently and never backed up his crap with his fists, ducking behind refs and other players.

Half of Stevens' hits would be suspendable if he played in the NHL today. They may have been "legal" at the time, but they were still dirty.

if you are comparing Scott Stevens and Matt Cooke, then you must have the hockey knowledge of a canucks fan. makes no sense
