Habs 2015 draft preview
The Habs organization were excited for their first draft. Having 12 picks allowed us to pick some solid prospects and also had a few darts for the board.
10th- Lawson Crouse, LW. We had a list of 10 players we wanted. Crouse was 9th on that list and we were happy to get him at 10.
31st- Daniel Sprong, RW. Habs were hoping to get Beauviller here, but the Devils took him at 30- so it was an easy choice to stop Sprong from sliding further. Hopefully he goes in the 1st round of the NHL draft.
45th- Travis Dermot, D. We traded 37th pick to get 45 and 47. At 45, we he happy to get the intelligent 2way Defenseman. He is offensive with the potential to be a top 4 guy.
47th- Yakov Trenin, LW. His stride may resemble a turtle and need to improve on his acceleration- but his size and playmaking ability made him appealing to us.
75th- Dmytro Timashov, LW. After our plot to steal the 72nd pick was foiled, we took Timashov at 75. He had put up lots of points with Quebec and played well in the Memorial Cup. We had our eye on this player for this pick for months.
79th- Daniel Vladar, G. Habs goaltending prospects are already above average, but seeing Vladar on the board was to good to pass up. We had him as the 3rd best goalie in the draft and believe he will have some value going forward. Now to convince him to change his name to Darth.
81st- Jens Lööke, LW. A well rounded 2 way player who played with men in the SHL. Interested to see what will become of him. We project he will be a 2/3 line guy, as he does nothing great, but everything well.
108th- Ethan Bear, D. For the second time in the draft, the Habs couldn't pass on a player with a cool name. Besides that, he is a puck-moving defenseman who was on the top pair with Seattle. Looking forward to see where he goes in the NHL draft.
115th- Gustav Bouramman, D. Habs selected another strong puck moving defenseman. Not sure what he will become of him, but today he became a Hab.
120th- Veeti Vainio, D. For the third pick in a row in the 4th round, Habs selected another puckmoving defenseman. Vainio has good talent and is a strong skater with a good shot. Will need to work on his defensive game, but could become a top 4 guy.
129th- Tyler Soy, C. Soy is a skilled, pass first playmaker. Hopefully he will increase his intensity and make it to the next level.
148th- Kevin Stenlund, C. A big, smart, responsible center, who is the captain. Great on face offs but could work on his skating. His ranking has improved since the beginning of the year and is on the upswing. Interested to see were he goes in the NHL draft.
Thanks to the commishs (especially Jiri) for making it a successful and fun draft.
