Traffic violation question
My Dad got a ticket for a traffic violation. I dont want to get into too many specifics, but it wasn't criminal just your usual run of the mill traffic offences. The ticket itself is totally unreadable, and the cop called my Dad tonight telling him he will come by to collect the carbon copy and re issue him a new ticket.
Is my Dad legally obligated to cooperate?
(I gave my Dad the # to points to call tomorrow, but wanted to know if its as waste of time I guess)

Your father should yell "Free Man on the Land!" and tell the cop he refuses to recognize his authority because the name on his licence does not refer to an "actual person".
Or he could just not waste the cop's time and accept, then pay the ticket, as that would be the moral thing to do. The legal thing, well, I guess he could consult a lawyer.

It's been discussed on here a few times before, yes the cop can reissue the ticket and no your dad doesn't have to cooperate as long as he doesn't mind getting convicted of the offense and having to pay the fine next time he goes in to use the registry.

ya look at the older threads where people got tickets for lesser offenses than they committed. They can reissue within X time period

This/
Go plead not guilty and they will quash the ticket if it's unreadable. Did it two years ago.

Inform your Dad to keep the ticket do nnt give it back to yhe officer. Go ASAP to the main court house 2nd floor and show the ticket plead not guilty. They will likely throw it out before issuing a court date.

In 1997 I was given a ticket. I went to the ticket payment window (I think at the courthouse) to ask for more time to pay, as I didn't have any money. After looking at it for a bit they said the cop gave me the wrong copy, and thus the ticket wasn't valid. The officer could reissue it for the next six months. He never did, so it saved me about $100.

I really don't understand in this day and age why there are hand written tickets and tickets with errors.
Give the cops a form tablet, with fricken drop downs and electronic signature collection and the ability to either print the ticket directly or e-deliver the ticket.
Come on man. We could get a lot more dollars if we reduced these errors.

They have this in Ontario. A few years ago (I think 2011 or 2012), I was in Ottawa and got a warning from the cop and it was a print out. He had a device that resembled those portable payment machines that bars and restaurants have but a little bigger.

Just wanted to bump this thread because the cops called my Dad back and based on further evidence gathering they've decided my Dads version of the events are true now and have ripped up the ticket.
It's too bad he missed out on being moral though and paid the ticket hey?

You left out all the details, but just because you're found not guilty doesn't mean you're innocent....

I got a ticket a couple of years ago from one of the guys that camps out with a radar gun and then just walks into the middle of the road with his hand up pulling me over.
The ticket was completely "printed" No handwriting whatsoever. I thought that would be the new norm. No more handwritten tickets.

Just an update (I know this is an old post) but CPS was doing a pilot project (or perhaps just a roll out) of this system last year. I got a distracted driving ticket and the cop just printed it out in his car for me.
jar_e can probably speak to whether it was just a pilot project or whether it's being implemented across the board.
Still got it down from $175 to $75 in court, though!

I always question our training processes when I see the cops do such stupid things.
Is this a thing where the cops are too scared to question their higher ups or too stupid to question it?

I've paid tickets, and later they were reversed automatically without me doing anything. Just saying. Congrats on your savings though!

Just show up and talk to the Crown. I think they usually offer half the fine, or full fine and no demerits as their standard "can I get you out of my office immediately" offer.

Yep, exactly. I didn't give anyone a blowjob for the decrease, like you may have heard. I just showed up and talked to the crown like Hulkrogan said. Hulkrogan is correct, anything else you hear is hearsay.
Just showed up, talked, got my fine decreased, like a perfectly normal citizen. Didn't go any further than that because there was no need to, as hulkrogan explained.
