Default Let's talk Shore

What do you guys think about this guy?
I'm a little bummed we got such limited viewings. He seemed pretty solid to me. Big body, decent hands, plays the board game well.

He's going to be a waiver problem next year. Will he stick as 4th line center? Will we lose him for nothing? Is he just not that good?

How was he on face offs?

Ps cue the shore-isms. Ie I'm not shore what we should do with him.

Interesting player. Excited to see what he brings to the table. Can't imagine they'll let him go for free on waivers. He either makes the big team or is traded. The former seems more likely.

We won't lose him on waivers IMO. He'll either make the team or be traded.

Given his size, age, versatility and sklill set hopefully he just straight up makes the team, and never looks back.

The Flames need size, Shore has that. I view him as David Jones replacement, especially after this season because of Jones UFA status (provided he isn't dealt between now and opening day)

We lack big, right sided forwards, so he should shore up that part of the depth chart.

I liked when he drew in with the checking lines - but he needs time to develop as a scorer.

Worst case, he is 3/4 line C/RW, and with the depth in the bottom 6 he can be rotated in/out of the lineup. If he picks up and gets scoring touch, that would be a big boost

You "Colborne" him. Convert him to a RW. Let him take draws if the primary center is waved out. Hope he becomes a big bodied winger that the Flames need.

If it looks like he can't make the roster full time, then try to package him for a young defenceman having similar issues with his respective team (e.g. Gormley).

Given his contract status and waiver eligibility, he'll be given every opportunity to succeed next year out of camp.

Sort of like when we picked up Colborne. I think he'll develop into a solid 3rd liner fairly quickly on this team.

Probably David Jones' replacement honestly.

Hartley didn't seem to trust him for whatever reason. Never saw the ice a whole lot which also makes me think Treliving agreed with what Hartley was seeing. Wouldn't shock me to see him dealt. Also wouldn't shock me to see someone else dealt and Shore rotating between the press box and 4th line RW.

I was kind of baffled about how little we did use him.

Wonder if there was something behind the scenes going on.

I thought he looked pretty good in limited action. Has good size and decent skating ability.

I think you are reading too deep into things here. Hartley didn't use Poirier much either. Doesn't mean he doesn't like them it's just that he's going to play the players the he feels gives him the best chance to win on any given night.

Eventually, he'll start out as the 4th line RW and hopefully work his way.

I see him phasing in, unless he straight up wins a guaranteed spot in camp. Shore could also make it a possibility to move Hudler back to the left, if they move him off the top line. Not saying they will, but putting Hudler with Bennett as a mentor has merit, and that would mean Colborne moving up with Monahan, leaving a space on the right. A lineup balancing out the offence might look like this:

Gaudreau - Monahan - Colborne (#1, balanced)
Bouma - Backlund - Jones (Checking, def. zone start)
Hudler - Bennett - Shore (#2, off. zone start)
Ferland - Stajan - Jooris (Energy, def. zone start)
ex. Bollig
Trade: Raymond

I really liked him. I'd like to see him with Bennett next year. I thought he should've been played more.

I liked what I saw as well, but there wasn't a lot to go on.

He has the tools: size, speed, decent hands, good along the boards.

He just needs to take it to the next level and solidify a regular spot in the lineup. I agree that moving him to the wing makes a lot of sense.

And I agree - no chance of waivers, unless he plays so poorly they can't find a trading partner.

Young, bottom 9 wingers so far: Bouma, Ferland, Colborne, Jooris, Shore... lots of size and speed there. Things are moving in the right direction.

Well yeah, of course, we won't just hand it to him. I think he'll be playing bottom 6 RW minutes behind Hudler and Jones, and hopefully makes Jones expendable (or not re-signing worthy) for the 16/17 season.

There's an awful lot of depth on this team at forward. Shore is knocking on the door, but much like his defensive counterpart Wotherspoon I believe Hartley is implementing him slowly.

Guys like Monahan, Jooris and Gaudreau earned his trust straight away, but there must be something about Shore and Wotherspoon that makes Hartley trepidatious about putting them straight into the lineup. I doubt it's anything serious; it's probably sheer lack of experience.

I am of the mindset that there will be some player movement this summer to accommodate some of this young talent. I wonder if they look at moving Jones, Raymond or even Stajan at the draft. Maybe even Backlund gets dangled... They can't really afford to trade them all, but one or 2 forwards could garner a decent enough return.

We'd be plenty competitive with a forward lineup like this:

Gaudreau Monahan Hudler
Ferland Bennett Colborne
Bouma Backlund Jooris
Bollig Stajan Shore
Wolf/Byron

We could sure use a guy like Shore in our conference-big guy who can skate, but it just doesn't seem like Hartley is a fan.....
