Default MLB 2015 Season

Panda rejects Giant's offer, will test free agency. I'm a bit surprised.

http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/p...om%3Afoxsports

Pablo Sandoval has rejected the San Francisco Giants' $15.3 million qualifying offer and will test free agency, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

Sandoval was one of several big-name offers to receive a qualifying offer Monday. Detroit made the offers to pitcher Max Scherzer and first baseman-designated hitter Victor Martinez, and Pittsburgh to left-hander Francisco Liriano and catcher Russell Martin.

Also receiving offers were shortstop Hanley Ramirez (Los Angeles Dodgers), outfielder Nelson Cruz (Baltimore), right-hander James Shields (Kansas City), closer David Robertson (New York Yankees), outfielder Melky Cabrera (Toronto), pitcher Ervin Santana (Atlanta) and outfielder Michael Cuddyer (Colorado).

Given his season, Sandoval could be in line for a deal similar to the five-year, $90million contract Hunter Pence got last year. However, qualifying offers have become a scarlet letter for players who receive them, as many teams are reluctant to lose draft picks to sign free agents.

Rmours that the Marlins might offer Stanton a 300+ million deal.

Yowza.

Quote:
The two sides are discussing a deal that would be for at least 10 years and at least $300 million, according to major-league sources.

Stanton's representatives also have discussed shorter contracts with the Marlins, and the mere fact that the sides continue to talk is a sign of progress, sources say.

Stanton's agent, Joel Wolfe, declined comment.

"We're having continual dialogue," Marlins general manager Dan Jennings said. "I wouldn't say we're close to anything."

Gosh damn. How can Florida afford such a contract. He's as good as gone in the next 3 years I'd think. I'm not even sure he's the best in the game to get that type of deal, but how are teams in pro sports continually so stupid to offer anyone that long a contract? Given Florida's situation, 7 years tops, but anyone on that team paid $25M+ does not fit in.

He's worth it. Good for Loria ponying up to keep a generational superstar. Only Trout is definitively better than him in the game. If they didn't pay this, he would have gotten more on the market.

I agree he wouldn't gotten that on the open market (or more), but does he fit into Florida's structure? That I can say definitely IMO that he doesn't. Plus there is a high probability in the later years of his contract he won't be worth it (or any other player with that long a contract duration).

Panda to Red Sox for 5 years, $100 M.

http://espn.go.com/boston/mlb/story/...medium=twitter

As the Giants have discussed Plan B moves in case they lost out on Sandoval, they've talked about the possibility of pursuing left-hander Jon Lester, sources told ESPN's Buster Olney. The Red Sox also remain engaged in talks with Lester about a possible reunion with the pitcher.

The Giants made a one-year qualifying offer of $15.3 million to Sandoval for 2015, which he rejected, ensuring them draft-pick compensation if he signs with another team.

http://bosoxinjection.com/2014/11/24...medium=twitter

However, Gordon Edes is reporting that Sandoval’s agent has said that the reports are “not true” while Alex Speier of WEEI is reporting that Sandoval’s decision will come later today.

Damn, where is Boston getting the extra cash from? Potentially adding $60M for this years' payroll? Crazy.

Default Cruz signs with the Mariners

Quote:
Veteran outfielder Nelson Cruz has agreed to a multiyear deal with the Seattle Mariners, pending a physical, a league source confirmed to ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick.

4 year deal at $58 million plus Kyle Seager's $100 million extension at third base. Mariners look to be spending their RSN money. I think they are in contention with the Angels for the AL West with the A's in rebuild mode.

It's the 2015 MLB season already? Where's the 2015 Stampede thread?

As per TSN, White Sox aquire Samardzija for prospects. Looks to be a solid deal for Chicago as Samardzija was strong in Oakland. I didn't necessarily want him in Toronto's hitter's park, but the guy can deal.

Lester signs $155M or 6 years with the Cubs. Ridiculous but not totally unexpected. I guess somewhat fair, but I can't say he's part of the elite aces to warrant $25M/season (if it were my money). I guess the good part is he's out of the AL East.

Joe Maddon, strongest farm system in MLB, three of top 10 prospects in baseball, two young allstars signed to longterm team friendly contracts, payroll flexibility, new TV deal in the near future meaning massive increased revenues, wrigley field, front office with proven track record of winning (see Red Sox). Chance of being part of ending the longest championship drought in sports!

Wake up this morning to see the Dodgers didn't sleep last night... And Cespedes for Porcello appears to be a done deal as well. Boston adds to their rotation.
