Mixed race couple driven from Kahnawake home
Interesting story developing here in Montreal area.

There are mixed opinions as to why residents of the Kahnawake reserve near Montreal are protesting the relationship between Amanda Deer and her non-native boyfriend.
Deer believes protesters gathered outside her home Sunday and demanded the family leave because they were trying to enforce a territory law that says any Mohawk who marries or lives with a non-native must move away.

The way I look at it is if you aren't a member of the reserve, while you're on it, you're a guest. As a guest you can be kicked out anytime they want to. From the story it seems that their beef is with the non-native boyfriend. If the woman wants to be with her boyfriend, it can't be on the reserve.

It seems to me that whenever I hear about someone getting kicked off a reservation or losing their First Nation status for marrying outside their race it is a female. I have never heard of this happening to a male.

Sometimes facts are facts.
If this happened off of a reserve in any other community against an Aboriginal Canadian, people's lives would be ruined by the Social Media Justice Warrior's.

Again, this has nothing to do with white guilt, white privilege, how crappy whites have treated Aboriginals throughout history.
This policy is racist. Period. It is a form of ethnic cleansing within the confines of the reservation. Yes Aboriginal Canadians have been, and continue to be dealt a crappy hand. But that doesn't change the fact, that anyone protesting this guys presence based on his skin color, is a racist. Regardless of if he has a criminal record or not.

You hear of this happening every once in a while, but it seems like it is always in Quebec, at least when it makes the news.

"Ethnic cleansing" is a rather loaded term and it doesn't apply here. They didn't take the guy out and shoot him.
I do agree that the policy is racist.
The OT board is usually pretty rough on violent criminals though. I have to wonder how much outrage there would be if this guy moved into Willow Park and the locals in that community demanded he get out. Would we have the same amount of outrage?

If they were citing his criminal record as the primary reason they want him out, that is a different story. But the attitude seems to be "He's white, he doesn't belong in our community..... oh yeah, he's a criminal as well...that too."

Maybe he's just being a jackass legally but everyone wanted him out, so they pulled out an old, outdated, racist, and seldom used rule and said "#### the public backlash" just to get him out.
