Icon28 Mike Babcock Signs Extension with Red Wings (unfounded)

As per Sportsnet

Edit: followed the link that was sent to my phone from the Sportsnet App and there is nothing there...

Haha! Really?

I guess once Edmonton settled on McLellan all of his prospects dried up!

I figured this was the likeliest of the possibilities.

Crazy, thought he'd move on.

Must have turned down some lucrative offers.

I will have to tell my source that he's full of shinguard. He was 99 percent certain that Babcock was gonzo to a larger market.

Haha, Leafs fans are probably going crazy right now. They thought Babcock was going to be the savior and the driver of their rebuild. This will be devastating for them, and now they don't even have McLellan as their back up plan.

Good for Detroit and Babcock.

Pretty cool that they were open to him exploring his options.

Don't get too far ahead of yourselves rubbing in into Oiler and Leaf Nations. Seems like Sportsnet's usual high level of hockey knowledge may have impacted this announcement as well. No other confirmations out there.

I'm calling BS on this as of 2:49PM.

Somewhat surprising, because no question he could've written his own cheques in Toronto, who's express reason for giving Carlyle a 1 year extension before this year was to get in on Babcock. But TO is too much of a gong show, too many politics back and forth with the owners and upper level execs there...never mind the prying, cutthroat media turning every sneeze into a front page story and debate. Philly, there was Synder, of course, pulling his strings.

I don't think Edmonton was even an option, but you ask Oiler fans today I am sure they will tell you it was Chirelli that turned down Babcock, while riding his unicorn. Hopefully McLellan comes to his senses when he gets back to North America and doesn't waste a couple years of his career up north.

Pretty sure Sportsnet jumped the gun
Helene St. James ‏@HeleneStJames 5m5 minutes ago Per #RedWings GM Ken Holland, "Mike Babcock has not made a decision," on coaching future. He expects to make decision by end of next week.

I am starting to not believe me either. I think I will leave these types of things to Sureloss in the future.
