Default Family Events This Weekend

Hey folks,

I thought it might be useful if we had a thread that could be updated regularly with family events that are happening each weekend. There are always plenty of events going on and I usually find that it is difficult to stay current with what is happening around the city.

The reason this came to my mind today is because I heard on the radio this morning that the City of Calgary is doing their annual Disaster Alley event. We missed this last year because I hadn't heard about it and saw it as we drove by in the morning but didn't have time to stop. My kid was not impressed.

May 8-10 Weekend:

Disaster Alley - Saturday May 9, 11am-3pm, McMahon Stadium
Disaster Alley is a great event for families and individuals alike. It’s an annual preparedness event that occurs in Calgary every May. As Calgary’s largest preparedness event, Disaster Alley showcases over 30 exhibitors, such as the Calgary Fire Department, Calgary Search and Rescue Association (CALSARA), HAWCS, and many more groups who provide assistance in emergencies and disasters. These exhibitors educate guests about what they can do in an emergency or disaster.

Day Out With Thomas - Friday May 8 to Sunday May 10, All day, Heritage Park
Day Out With Thomas provides an opportunity for kids to take a ride with their favorite tank engine, meet the railway controller Sir Topham Hatt, have fun in the Imagination Station, face painting, musical entertainment and much more! Get ready for The Celebration Tour at Heritage Park Historical Village in Calgary!

May 15 - 17 Weekend:
Banff Children's Festival - Saturday May 16, 9am - 4pm, Banff (Various locations)
The Banff Centre invites you to take a journey into a world of contemporary creativity. Over 25 events and activities featuring Alice in Wonderland, Kaput, and Spell to Bring Lost Creatures Home with Shary Boyle and Christine Fellows, circus school, hands-on photography, animation and sculpture workshops, Indigenous stories, Parks Canada Planetarium, family dance, mountain films, tiny tots crafts and story time, art exhibitions, face painting, climbing, swimming, and bouncy castles.

May 22 - 24 Weekend:
Calgary Stampeders Fanfest - Saturday May 23, 8:30am pancake breakfast and 9:30am to 1pm, McMahon Stadium
There are games on the field, the opportunity to interact with Stampeders players, alumni, coaches, Outriders and Ralph the Dog and get autographs. You can pose for a photo with the Grey Cup, sign up for the Kids Club and browse through the latest in authentic Calgary gear from the Stamps Store. Fanfest is also the first opportunity for fans to pick up their season tickets for the coming year. If you haven't got your tickets yet, sales staff will be on site to help you find the perfect seats for a full season of CFL excitement.

Calgary Children's Festival - Wednesday May 20 - Saturday May 23, Olympic Plaza & Arts Commons
From the free outdoor stage, to the host of interactive activities, to the award-winning theatre presented in Arts Commons, Calgary International Children’s Festival has something for everyone. This year, we can’t wait to welcome you with our most exciting festival yet including the exciting performances of Kaput, LEO, BAM, and Alice in Wonderland, as well as the return of our fully programmed Circle-stage with musical acts like KORE and Wild Sings. Last but not least, you have to see it to believe it – SQUONK!

Stamps Fanfest is on May 23. The kids had a great time last year. We will be going again this season.
We went to disaster alley a couple years ago and the kids loved being able to look around inside the vehicles.
