I really have no emotional connection to that rink, but when the saddledome meets the wrecking ball one day, it'll be sad.

Wouldn't it be easier to just let the ice melt and drain than bulldozing all of it?

It is sad to see. Lots of history there.

I was very lucky to get a chance to get out there in February to see the Flames play one last time. While a horrendous commute (from Manhattan) it's certainly worth it. The atmosphere for a mid-season game against a non-Conference opponent was astounding. Loud, knowledgeable, boisterous hockey crowd. Just a fantastic experience, despite the loss and meandering cab ride to nowhere.

Oh, and to those who complain about the concourse in the 'Dome (I'm one) we have nothing to complain about compared to that place. Think of the hallways in a really old '60s era hospital and fill it with vendor carts, 50/50 booths, booster club tables and 16,000 of your closest friends. It makes dodging a couple of trucks easy to take.

Finally, let's remember that they're not tearing the whole thing down. The place is set to be renovated over the next couple of years. Not sure what the final project is slated to be though.

Pictures are hilarious, definitely for effect. Wish they had some fun ones in there too, maybe some pickaxes or those ice breakers used on driveways.

"Heartbreaking" is laying it on tremendously thick.

I got out there last year - for a game against Washington when the Isles were already out of it. Probably 13k, but still loud and fun. Great sightlines, horrid everything else. Glad I got there. Looking forward to going back to see a game at Barclays at some point.

Made a point of getting out there to catch NYI-MTL this year while I was in New York. Crazy loud building, great fans, great sightlines, but man was it ever a pain to get out to. I left Manhattan shortly after 4:00pm for a 7:30pm start and still missed the puck drop due to the poor public transit options. The new building in Brooklyn doesn't have the history but it will be so much better for the team in terms of filling the building.

It's going to be renovated and the winning bid included having the Islanders play a couple of games a year there. This is one of the least tear-jerking stadium goodbye in all of hockey that I can think of.
