Is it just me or is Calgary way over represented on that show? I know there's at least a couple of Calgarians that have "won" the whole thing, and in every season there's at least 1 from the city and a few more from surrounding areas

I think there have been at least 2 from Medicine Hat as well. My Aunt worked with one of them.

Classy guy. Probably sports a flat bill baseball hat with the sticker still on and picture of a diamond on it.

Any idea what the fine is for going that far over the speed limit within Calgary?

50 kph over is now a $474 fine and 6 demerits, but fines aren't listed for anything over 50 as they are a mandatory court appearance so it'll be at least that and then some... careless is another $400 if they wish to throw that in.

I think it is the reckless nature of their offenses compared to the incompetence of other contestants.
I have been back to Alberta and Calgary several times this year and that's what I notice. In Vancouver, incompetent drivers. In Calgary, reckless drivers.

I don't know how he managed to get up to 180 with everyone driving 105 in the passing lane.

Anything outside of peak hours on Stoney is open season for speeding, especially in the SE where it's 8 lanes wide. It's quiet all weekend, and I see CPS trapping there pretty much every single time I go through.

Hope they're getting a good chunk of change from all the tolls, er tickets along that road.

Yeah I mean nobody likes tickets but I don't blame them for trapping down there. When the SE opened in 2013 it was insane the speeds people were doing... convoys of people doing 160+ like it wasn't nothin. Calgary hadn't really seen a big wide straight freeway like that before so it sorta made sense, but it was bonkers. Same thing happened on NW Henday here in Edmonton when it opened, 6 lanes wide.
You can set your cruise down there at 110+ and when you inevitably see a cop, not even let off... because guaranteed someone will come up behind you at 130+ and get nabbed.

I tought it was funny he mentioned that after being on the show it has affected his "dealings with the police".
How often does he have "dealings" with the police? or who has "dealings" with the police?

Out of curiosity, at what point do you consider speeding to be as bad as drunk driving? Because driving 110 on Stoney is technically illegal, but 110 is the design limit of the road so it'd be tough to argue that it's anywhere near as dangerous as being under the influence.

Ehh... it happens. I haven't had any dealings with EPS since I got here cause frankly they have better things to do, but police/peace officers in southern Alberta in particular will pull you over for absolutely no reason to give you a warning for something they couldn't give you a ticket for anyway (or one you could fight and easily win) or just to "see what's up".

^ Why is the limit on Stoney set at 100? Not saying that this idiot doing 176 is fine, but clearly that road could be at 110, if not 120 with no issue at all. I can't get over the artificially low speed limits we have on our roads. It seems like there are plenty where the speed limit hasn't kept up with what cars can safely do these days.

Better yet, why is the speed limit 90 on 16th just east of Stoney. you feel like your crawling if your going 110km.
I was on Deerfoot in the middle of the afternoon today beside and cop, and all 4 lanes of the road were in complete disarray because of the people straining to go 100KM on a road where the average safe and reasonable speed if 120. I passed him at 110 and he didn't care. Theres just something wrong with that whole scenario, and the only fix is to set reasonable speed limits.
I can't say for sure this guy was being unsafe, speed alone does not define weather or not a driver is safe. But 180 is pretty damn fast, I'm sure I've only driven that fast on empty country roads when I could see for kilometers.
