Default The "Red Mile" & "C of Red"

How awesome would it be to have these back if the Flames make the playoffs this year? Just thinking about it all just gives me memories and the chills!

Would it be even bigger then the previous years since we haven't been in the playoffs in years, and people are just anticipating it?

You'll have a packed Saddledome full of red jerseys, but I don't know if it would be bigger than previous years or have that '04 atmosphere....generally I don't notice people being that excited or passionate about the Flames today, even with the team doing well.

I definitely want it to happen though.

Hard to imagine any year as good as 2004. That was unexpected and just naturally happened. Now that we'be seen it there will be too many people trying too hard to replicate it and getting upset because they can't shoot firecrackers in the air while not every girl around them (or not as many) walks around bare breasted and cops are stopping people from carrying open alcohol and pissing in back alleys.

It can still be a great time but it will feel more restricted.

The Dome may take longer to get going too. Initially people were just happy to be there. If they can make the playoffs and make it past the first round you can bet that it will be rockin' in that building. A couple of ifs there.

It'll never be the same, that was once in a lifetime. That's not to say we shouldn't try though !

GIVE US A SHOW FOR GAUDREAU!
MOD EDIT: too much
I don't think the 04 redmile will ever be replicated, but I have no doubt that if the Flames end up making a deep playoff run, the city will be alive again.

I was living away in 04 (watched or listened to every minute though) but I was a rowdy 20 year old lad on a little street known as Electric Avenue when they won it all (some of you kids may be to young to remember).

Melrose obviously played a big role in establishing the previous Red Mile. I don't think there is that necessary spark or atmosphere setter on 17th anymore.

I hunk national and ship & anchor might be able to pick up the slack left by melrose. Especially since hey are right beside each other, would help amplify things

There was a crowd pic in the Sun the morning after and I could pick myself and my girlfriend (at the time) out amongst 30,000 people. Right after the game they shut down the entire downtown core to vehicle traffic.

I was watching the game in lake louise with a buddy and as soon as we won we drove to Calgary just to hit the avenue, what a night.

The Red Mile gets the press but Electric Avenue was a blast, parties from the 89 Flames, Stamps in 92 I think, back to back Blue Jays in 92-93. epic!

Real bummer the city squashed the best party area the city ever knew.

Electric Ave was just excellent during the '88 Olympics as well. I was in SAIT at the time and they shut it down for a couple of weeks so that athletes could use the SAIT rez. You'll never guess where I was during the entire 2 weeks.

If we face Vancouver like in 04 and take them out in a hard fought series just like in 04, you can bet your bacon this city will catch fire again. But considering the buzz is less this year going in than it was the spring before our miracle run and fans witnessed a few first round flops since, that's why you're gonna need that series win to get everybody back on board.

The hardcores will still all be loud and proud, the dome will be a distinct deep red again, faces will be painted, flags waved and horns honking downtown if we make it in, regardless, though.

I'll be blowing off any commitments to catch all games. Wouldn't miss our boys playing for a chance at the cup for anything.
