Hartley and the Jack Adams Award
There was an article posted on The Score at the beginning of this season (see here http://tinyurl.com/ojlfg5z ) that suggested the three most likely candidates for the Jack Adams were Jack Capuano, Peter DeBoer and Lindy Ruff.
At this point I would argue the three most likely candidates are Jack Capuano, Peter Laviolette and Bob Hartley - and if the Flames continue on their present track (especially if they make the playoffs) Hartley could be a leading contender as few saw the Flames performing at this level.

Honestly, if we make the playoffs, Hartley should win this going away. Not sure how the voting will go, but he should win.
Amazing when you think about it. Hartley an Adams contender, Gio a Norris contender (and should be Hart too), Gaudreau a Calder and Lady Byng contender. Gio and Gaudreau will appear on post-season All-Star teams.
That's all it took to be in playoff contention...

If the Flames make the playoffs, it would be a crime if Hartley didn't win.

Even if the Flames don't make the playoffs, Hartley should still be strongly considered for what he has done with this team.

It's hard to not give credit to what Maurice has done with the Jets, Laviolette with the Preds, Capuano with the Isles, and Trotz with the Capitals. Including Hartley, any of these 5 coaches could win and I wouldn't be mad.

Hartley has done fantastic work, but I think it'd be really hard to go past Laviolette - he's taken a bubble team to (possibly) the top of the conference/league. Would say he still has a good chance and will be thrilled for him if he gets it!

Ya, I agree with this, I wouldn't be mad/disappointed if any of those guys won the award, but I think it is still too early to decide.
I could see Laviolette winning it just because they are at the top of the standings. Before the season started I wasn't sure they would be in a playoff spot at this point in the season. They are playing tonight and if they beat Anaheim, they will sit at the top of the league.
That is quite impressive.
But I guess the Flames, who were expected to be in the bottom 2 or 3 teams in the conference are one of the top 5 teams in the conference. Not too shabby there Mr. Hartley. This will be an interesting pick at the end of the season and a difficult one.

Hartley is definitely in the mix - and perhaps the favorite at this point. In addition to the coaches mentioned, I would add Dejardins to the mix as well. He seemed to 'right the ship' in Vancouver, though one could say they are perhaps starting to trend down (or perhaps just a bit of a hiccup).
Flames were probably the lowest rated team heading into the season. If the Flames do make the playoffs, one would figure he would be the most deserving of the Jack Adams. Listening to the different media through the Flames' road trips, the message continues to be the same - Hartley is looked at in an extremely positive light for how he handles the Flames, and how much he actually teaches during practices. At this point, there is probably no one more deserving than Hartley, but the voting will probably come down to which coach makes the playoffs.

There is Laviolette, Hartley and the also-rans although IMO Babcock is adding to his legend with the Wings. If Hartley can take the Flames team to the playoffs I simply don't know how he doesn't win as this team was picked by many to finish last and while goaltending has been good it's not like he's had the benefit of riding a goaltender that's stealing games consistently like Rinne does for the Preds. The team is picking up points because of a total buy-in from the players which is the sign of a great coaching job.

Having a healthy Pekka Rinne for the majority of the season sure helped a lot there. He's one of my finalists though. As is Capuano, who is doing on the Island what Hartley is here.

The Islanders also added a lot of key players to their roster. We added a couple of depth players, a project goalie and a rookie that many people weren't sure if he could play in the NHL yet.
But with the Isles, expectations are always low no matter what. Given what coaches had to start the season and expectations, I think Hartley has excelled the most. The Predators have really surprised me, but I recall some people in the media were predicting they would do well. The only person from the media I recall that thought the Flames might be a playoff team was Aaron Ward.

It's the Flames were talking about. Hartley won't win the adams, gio won't win Norris or hart, and Gaudreau won't win the Calder and somehow the byng. Small market team and always lower media recognition the media and gms will somehow screw it up.

I believe in the Jays.

The Jack Adams is basically the "Team the did well that no one thought would do well" award so if the Flames make the playoffs Hartley wins it. If they don't my money would be on Laviolette.

The Flames will have to finish in the top-10 overall for Hartley to earn a nomination. It's pretty uncommon for a coach of a team that doesn't to be nominated for the Jack Adams.

I believe the proper spelling is 'Artley.

Hartley should be a lock if the Flames secure a middle ranking. Think 4-6 spot in the playoffs. Just squeeking in may not get him the attention he rightfully deserves.

Nashville is looking to finish with a president's trophy. There's just no way Laviolette doesn't win it IMO, but Bob will get some votes

The Flames have exceeded expectations more so than any other team in the NHL this season. I think that's an accurate measurement of On Paper versus Performance, which mainly lies on the coach's shoulders.
If any of us were asked what would be more realistic 52 games into the season?
(1) Nashville tied for first in the west, or
(2) the Flames second in the Pacific (behind only Anaheim).
Most of us would say (1) is more realistic. Laviolette has done a great job, but I think Hartley has done a greater job.

Ultimately I think it boils down to 'Artley having done more with less.

Hartley took a bottom feeding team and pushed them right up there with the best western teams.
