Can't believe he stayed unemployed for so long.
So now the real question, do the Devils finally rebuild? I'm gonna go with no, because Lou.

The bad part wasn't letting him, it was thinking Jim Rutherford was a suitable replacement.

Good hire for the Devils as they needed a change of direction as Lamoriello's approach had become stale. That said given how he never had issues stepping on his coaches toes and replacing them with himself you have to wonder how he will handle letting someone else run the show he has been running for a few decades now.

Lou is like the mob boss in New Jersey. You do what he says or you're sleeping with the fishes.

Should be able to rejuvenate that roster fairly quickly, I would think.
Their forwards are mostly old as dirt, but they have Schneider in goal and a good nucleus of young, mobile, decent sized Dmen to build out from.

I like the move for the Devils, but it will be interesting how much of a leash Lou lets Shero have...

Good hire for the Devils. The thing about Shero is that he isn't afraid to make bold moves.
I'm happy Edmonton didn't hire him!

Good move for the Devils. They are years away from being a part of the conversation in the east. You can't have guys like Kovalchuk and Parise walk away for nothing and expect to stay relevant.
They do have some solid young defensemen and a legit #1 goaltender.

Haha I was thinking the exact same thing. Could be a quick turnaround here if Shero can pull off a blockbuster with the Pens.

Nothing the Devils can really offer for Malkin. Unless they want to gut their team, Schneider + Larsson + Henrique +

A package of Henrique (2nd line center), Larsson (top pair Dman), Kinkaid (backup to MAF/challenge for starting gig), 6th overall (guy like Rantanen) would be a good package imo.
Malkin goes to 1st line and pushes Zajac in Henrique's spot.
Severson/Merill/Gelinas/Greene can still form a decent D in NJ.
Kinkaid gets replaced by some back up who doesn't need to play much behind Cory.
6th well you gotta give to get.

Good hire by the Devils. I think it is time for Lou to just stay as President of Hockey Operation and let Shero manage the team. I agree Lou's moves are getting stale and sometimes his meddling with coaching is getting ridiculous.
