Default Emile Poirier ... Enigma?

I was at the Winnipeg game and watched Poirier quite a bit and for what he is supposed to be, a first round pick, highly skilled energy player..

Really disappointing to say the least. Is something up with this guy? Gets called up during the season and shows NOTHING... gets sent down and does NOTHING until he gets called out by his coach. Does ok so he gets called up for the last game and he was INVISIBLE ...

Kind of troubling behavior... almost Sven like... Personally, I just don't understand his apparent lack of effort.. Overwhelmed ? Thought?

Could he possibly be injured? I don't think he had a single shift in the 3rd against Winnipeg

Hold up. No.

Trolling for controversy? "Sven like"? That'll sure get a response here.

You've made far too many assumptions about a very pleasant young man who is enjoying a very productive first year in pro hockey. I'm quite happy with his progress, and the fact that he's been invited to the NHL a few times in his second post-draft year as a late 1st round pick is about par-for-the-course. Not close to worried about him.

Concerning for sure. He didn't look ready for the NHL in my opinion. I would have liked to see some spark in his games with the big club.

You are right, he was rather dissapointing in Winnipeg.

But he is young and young players are inconsistent. When he finds consistency in his game, then he is ready for the NHL.

That's why it's funny to hear all these posters who are constantly demanding that we dump veteran X for prospect Y because of a little bit of success in juniors or the AHL.

We got lucky with Gaudreau and Monahan, most prospects need seasoning in the minors. They need to develop that consistency, the work ethic, the 200 foot game, whatever it is they need to work on. Sven needed time, and now Poirier needs time, and Klimchuk will need time. With the exception of the exceptional prospects, I don't think most of these kids are ready until they've had at least 2 full seasons in the AHL.

There's no rush until waivers become an issue. Let him develop in the AHL.

Wait... You mean we actually have to wait for players to develop to become an NHL regular? Oh.

Well his draft report was that he has some inconsistency issues, so there's that. Still just a kid and it's his first professional season, nothing to worry about yet IMO.

Things are going too well for the Flames, someone has to manufacture controversy.

how is this concerning?

the guy is 20. 20

Why are people obsessed with kids playing in the NHL? It isnt the end of the world if Porier, who hasnt even played a full year as a pro, isn't quite ready for the NHL.

basically lead the Adirondack Flames in scoring as a 19/20 year old rookie. Very troubling

Things are going pretty well for the Flames if a rookie having a bad game after what is a fairly fantastic year is the worst thing we can talk about. AHL All-Star at 20 and was close to the scoring leader in Adirondack in about 10 less games.

Did he have a bad game? Sure. But that's about all we can say about it.

39 points in 51 AHL games. Started the season as a 19 year old, didn't turn 20 until December. Could have easily been returned to junior without blinking an eye.

Stupid thread is stupid. The OP get can upset and suggest people could get a life but you have to wonder what sort of replies does this deserve. It's based on nothing but a gut feeling, which could easily be the fish from earlier.

I think it's a great idea to write off a 20 year old. Nothing can go wrong.

Can't imagine you'd expect any other response based on what you posted. The opinion itself is fine, although certainly debatable. Your descriptions of Sven, all-caps "NOTHING" and "INVISIBLE" are a little abrupt, and calling it a "lack of effort" comes across as premature and unfair.

If you want intelligent hockey discussions, make an intelligent post and we will discuss.

I don't know what the problem is, he based it on one whole entire game. Get off his back, brah.
