The best playoff game in Flames history?
Obviously Saturday night was an amazing game and one of the best games in Flames history, but where exactly would it rank in the all time pantheon of Flames playoff games? These ones would definitely make the list, off the top of my head:
April 13, 2008 - Calgary defeats San Jose 4-3 - "The Hit" by Sarich, some back from down 3-0
June 3, 2004 - Calgary defeats Tampa Bay 3-2 (OT) "The Shift" by Iginla, Saprykin OT winner for a 3-2 series lead
May 3, 2004 - Calgary defeats Detroit 1-0 (OT) - Gelinas ends the series in OT on home ice
April 19, 2004 - Calgary defeats Vancouver 3-2 (OT) - Gelinas breaks the cup curse, game 7 OT winner
April 14, 1991 - Calgary defeats Edmonton 2-1 (OT) - Theo Fleury slides down the ice
May 25, 1989 - Calgary defeats Montreal 4-2 - The Stanley Cup
April 15, 1989 - Calgary defeats Vancouver 4-3 (OT) - Vernon's spectacular OT saves
April 30, 1986 - Calgary defeats Edmonton 3-2 - Steve Smith's own goal for the biggest upset in Flames history

Pretty hard to ever top the Steve Smith game for memorable games.
Saturday's was probably the best game ever at the Saddledome though. It had so much going for it.

Probably the fifth or sixth biggest win in franchise history. Maybe fourth even

I think Saturday's game may be the best story. Down 3-0 and the big come back to win.
However I don't think it was a great game, I found Vancouver controlled the play for most of the game.

For me it's 2004 game 7 vs. Canucks. I had been waiting 10 years for payback for 1994 game 7

Beating Montreal in the Forum to win the Stanley Cup.
Not only did it lead to the franchise' only Stanley Cup to date... but the Flames were and are the only visiting team in NHL history to ever leave the Forum with the Stanley Cup.
Montreal's crowd gave the Flames a standing ovation. Can you even imagine that?
I don't see how any other game could even be considered.

I wasn't old enough at the time to appreciate the Cup run in '89, although when I watch the 10 Greatest Flames Playoff Games DVD there are some real gems from that year.
The game that stands out for me is that 1-0 OT win against Detroit in '04, slightly edging out beating the Canucks that same year.

May 3, 2004 - Calgary defeats Detroit 1-0 (OT) - Gelinas ends the series in OT on home ice
I was at this game, so that's it for me. 0-0 duel into double overtime. It was so tense, then the Gelinas goal. Pandemonium. Strangers hugging. Adults crying tears of joy.

Saturday's will always be first in my memory. The reason it sticks out is this whole season has been a shocker from October on. This team has been the most entertaining Flames team I have ever watched and the comebacks have been remarkable.
2 years into a long rebuild the Flamea win a round against an arch rival with our team having 5 rookies in the lineup and our best player on the shelf.

May 25th 1989, far and away the clear winner. Saturday's game does rank in the top 5 though.

I'm a little young for the games in the '80s but from personal experience. Kinda sad that right now all of my top 3 are in '04. If some magic happens this year Saturday night will certainly be a lasting memory.
Gelinas Eliminator against the Wings is the most excited I've ever been after a game. And the party on 17th Ave that night was what really made the red mile, the red mile.
Game 6 in '04 against the shark is the loudest I have ever heard the Dome, it was Saturday evening home game, I think the game started early (at 6pm maybe). There was this general aura about the building, we knew it was happening that night. The next three home just weren't quite as intense, there was almost a sense of mission accomplished once we reached the finals.
Game 6 against Vancouver even though we lost was the most into a playoff game I have ever been. coming back from 4-0 down to force tripe overtime. Crazy.
Of the 3 I have to pick the Geliminator taking down Detroit.

No way you can beat a SC winning game.
For me others are the 2004 game 7 OT against the Canucks (and even game 6 though it was a loss), the detroit elimination the same year, and the 1986 Steve Smith special.
I can't say the 1989 OT against the Canucks because I felt like the Flames should've beaten them well beforehand, and they didn't play that well in Game 7.
And I can't get behind other great games where the Flames ultimately lost the series, like the San Jose game.

Game seven against Philly in 1981 deserves a mention. First season in Calgary and they did something the Flames have only done 4 times in their history: Win the second round.
I don't have vivid memories of the game, but it's one of my earliest memories of being a Flames fan.

I gotta go with April 30, 1986 for the intensity and drama of the game itself. May 25, 1989 was glorious. But I wasn't as stressed as I was for the Flames-Oilers series. I was confident the Flames would beat the Habs in '89. In '86, the whole team on the rise vs Oilers dynasty thing, being absolutely terrified of that Oilers team, and the savagery of the rivalry, gave the games a special kind of drama.

So I've been to 3 of the best Flames games of all time?
Pretty sweet!!
It's hard to rank the 3 I've been too. I'd say it goes:
1. Saturdays game against the Canucks
2. Eliminating Detroit in '04
3. SJ 3-0 comeback.
