I like Nolan. Was a lame duck coach anyways. Best of luck to him.

Not unexpected, they were the fall group. He has never Murray's man. Interested to see who comes in over the summer.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
I can't say Mike Babcock will end up as coach in BUF but I will be shocked if Sabres don't take a hard run at wooing Babcock away from DET.

Yeah, I know this season went as expected for the Sabres, but its hard to have a coach come back after such an abysmal failure and try and turn things around.

I worked with Tom Coolen when i was working the minor leagues in NC...not a finer guy in the game IMO. hope he lands on his feet again soon as he is terrific hockey mind.

Too bad for Nolan though....what he has had to deal with there since returning was completely unfair and had no chance of any semblance of success.

I do wonder if Murray just wants a young coach to grow with the group of kids he will have going forward and then once they start to turn the corner, have a veteran guy to take them the distance.....seems to be a common "plan" in these rebuilds.

What? Fire Nolan for trying to instill a winning attitude while being sabotaged by the GM?

He did exactly what management wanted the team to do. He had them play hard, and still finish last. I don't know why you wouldn't keep him around for one more year unless Murray is planning a 180 (i.e. goal next season is playoffs). Seems unlikely; I'd say give it one more and by then your younger D have a bit more seasoning and Reinhart's ready.

Tough job for Nolan when you know the team is tanking and all you get to do is try and develop some good habits for the young players. As far as I can see he did a good job but you have to wonder about his future as he leaves this job as a loser. Maybe the Leafs will want him as they should be in the same position next season.

As for Babcock, if he moves he'll want to be more than just a coach. He reminds me of the Scotty Bowman situation when he coached Montreal and didn't get the chance to move up to GM so he moved on to Buffalo as their GM with mixed results.

Not Nolan's fault. Not even Scotty Bowman himself can save that team

Sucks to be Ted Nolan getting fired twice by Buffalo already because of the GM incompetency. GM didn't give him the players needed and those players showing competitiveness got traded. So the guy followed what the management wants him to do, like tanked all the way and once the plan was fulfilled, they dumped the loyal employee. Not saying Ted Nolan didn't suck as a coach but he can't be blamed 100% on Sabres' suckiness. Maybe Buffalo should hire Brent Sutter as a head coach.

I hope Nolan ends up somewhere with some talent. He deserves a legit shot to prove he can coach.

Too bad Nolan was brought in to be the tank commander, because he's better than that. Hope he gets a good gig

Ugh oh!

According to Don Cherry last night, may the Hokey Gods strike down on Buffalo now that they've fired Nolan... he said it will be bringing them years of bad luck.

We'll see he is getting old as you know, hah!

tough situation for Nolan...

not sure if a cadre of HOF coaches could have done anything in Buffalo... Trading their #1 goalie...twice in the same year?

Buffalo was hell bent on tanking in order to get McDavid...

Given Nolan's notorious past (including the rumors of his abysmal Flames interview back when), I am sure he didn't do himself any favours. He probably did or said something out of line at some point which sealed his fate, as it would have happened no matter how well the team played.

I think this might be part of it. I think they're hoping for a fast rebuild. To me, that's what motivated the Kane trade. Buffalo got a good player, with the potential to be great, and did it without messing up their dive to the bottom. Sets up a quick turnaround.

If the Oilers were serious about winning they would start with Lowe and all the old boys club and start fresh. It isn't the 1980's anymore. Lol
