QOTD: Nerves and superstitions in big games?
Some people aren't superstitious at all, others are complete nutbars when it comes to rituals and set up for games their team simply has to have.
I don't honestly believe that what I do will have an impact on the game, but I do try to repeat some behaviours if the team won the last game.
Are you superstitious? What do you have to do today and tonight?
Where are your nerves for this one?

I'm a superstitious guy in general but when it comes to this years Flames, I'm really not. I think this teams work ethic is good enough and has proven that they're more than lucky. They haven't really had all the bounces go their way but they still find a way to win because they refuse to give up or give in. I used to do certain things before games and on game days but I just don't see the point.

Not superstitious at all, but I don't blame anyone for being so, in fact much of what people do before games is quite hilarious.

I'm with Bingo. I don't actually believe that any of my actions, or inactions, have any impact on the game but, for some reason, I often feel compelled to repeat the same behaviors that resulted in a win previously. Such as wearing Flames socks or dressing my son in Flames gear. I also won't say the s-word - I inow it's silly. My husband makes endless fun of me (he's not a hockey fan) but something in me makes it keep going. I think there is a completely illogical, emotional side to it that catches me. It's all in fun though. I also enjoy reading what others do as part of their ritual.

I'm the same. Deep down I know my actions have absolutely nothing to do with whether we win or lose. But I always think that if there is even the smallest chance that my actions might change the course of a parallel universe somewhere then I'm going to do it.

Superstitions are silly. I'm confident because regardless of what happens tonight, we have another chance to clinch on Saturday night.

Superstitions are ridiculous. Anything anyone does has no impact on the outcome of the game. There are probably 100,000 other people doing things that might jynx the team and yet we still get wins, we still get shutouts. Joking about superstitions is one thing, but taking them seriously is another.
So there, we'll get a shutout and make the playoffs tonight and win the Stanley cup. If you're a nervous wreck, you're taking this whole thing way too seriously.

Nerves, yes. Superstitions, no.
Although this time I'd say I'm more anxious than nervous.
Some of the superstitions people have seem like way too much work.

I'm gonna be a wreck. The game is on at 9:00 am here. I work 7:30-3:00, won't get home to be able to watch it until around 4:30pm Taipei time, or 2:30 am Calgary time. I'll have to avoid the internet, turn off my phone, and avoid every Canadian I know.

I have been wearing the same thing for games since Saturday for the Jets and it's paid off. I have my Iginla jersey out for the Flames. I am already pumped.

I'm not superstitious in the least. But there was a stretch this year very recently where every game I was able to watch they lost or lost in overtime\shootout, and every game I missed, they won.
It wasn't just a one off either, it lasted 10 games or so. It was starting to freak me out and question my place in the universe.
For the record, I am unable to watch tonight.

Not a superstitious person at all, quite actually I believe superstition to be dumb. But everytime we near the playoffs, with possibility of entering, I become very superstitious, for example I wouldn't lend my non-fan friend a jersey for tonights game just couldn't, if it were a red bleeding fan I would.

Nothing I do has an impact on the game other than cheering which is a very very small contribution. Last game I drove, tonight I may walk or take the Ctrain.
Nice shutout tonight, Hiller!

Nervous. Excited. Thinking about the game all day.
If someone told me before the season that the Flames could clinch the playoffs before the Penguins do, I'd have slapped them in the face.
Could happen tonight.

Ha ha. I'm the same. Nothing normally, but on game day, I'll randomly decide it's bad juju to wear opposing team colors, or must wear red/jersey and listen to a song that pumps me up because it feel it was affect the hive mind or something.
And for those frazzled... Sing along to Sweet Caroline. Seriously. That song is somehow a drug for happy and turns even the angriest and drunkest fan into the happiest bubbliest singer ever.
