Tube style TV's
Does anyone still use these? I've had one is my basement that is about 10 years old. 27" Sony Wega. Thinking of just taking it to recycling depot.

Put it for free on Kijiji and have someone take it away for you. I got rid of one a few moths ago very quickly.

I almost can't even fathom anymore how heavy those suckers were.
My parents had a 27" Wega for a bit and I remember tossing that thing out. OMG.

Years ago, my FIL had a nice TV that he was getting rid of and he told me "if you can move it out of here, you can have it".
Friggin thing was 200+ lbs and awkward as hell to carry. Stupid TVs.

The 36" Wega I just dumped at the recycling depot weighed almost 300 lbs. I remember paying $1800 for it about 11 years ago. Great investment.

We custom-designed a built-in wall unit around a big old tube TV when we first renovated the house. Still use it (rarely) and nothing else is going to fit there. We did get real TVs for the basement and bedroom.

I tried getting rid of my old 27" tube TV (also a Sony Wega) for free on kijiji - it still worked fine and had a great picture but was too big. There were no takers though and I ended up dumping it at electronics recycle. Took 2 people to move the thing.

I remember lugging a 36" up three flights of apartment stairs. Fun times.

I still have one that sits in my guest bedroom. Have my PS2 hooked up to it. They play non HD consoles way better than HD tvs.

A lot of gamers still want these.
I know I will definitely want one in the future when I have more space.
A lot of old consoles look poor or will not work on non-CRT televisions. Light-gun games like Duck Hunt and House of the Dead, etc. will not work on LCD TVs.

I've got a 30" Toshiba CRT 1080i HD TV that's been sitting on my porch for a few years. I've thought maybe a gamer might be able to use it. I guess I should put it on Kiji for free. I hate just to throw it out. Well I couldn't throw it very far.

Those things were evil. I'll never forget the old 36" I had one of my old condos and how I tried to bring it down the stairs by myself while I was stoned.
That thing must have weighted 230lbs at least. Managed to somehow get it off my dresser in my room so I could move it to the living room. Waddled it to the stair case and debated how I was going to move it down the 2 flights of stairs to my living room. I was by myself and had just smoked a bowl, thinking it would give me super human strength.
I brought it to the edge of my staircase and figured if I put some boards like a ramp, I could slowly ease it down the stair case. I put a couple boards in place, slowly tilted the tv. I got in front of it, picturing myself slowly allowing gravity to do its thing while I slowed it from the front.
In reality what happened was as soon as the tv got off the edge of the steps and onto the boards, the boards snapped in half, the tv tilted and started falling down and like a snowball, it came crashing down and went through the drywall. Similar to Kool-aid man in family guy.
I now had a 230lbs tv halfway into the wall. I was baked. My neighbour was yelling wtf was happening. My gf at the time was going to kill me. Had to answer the door to the my neighbour thinking I had taken a sledgehammer to the wall. She helped me carry it to my living room, laughed at me, and told me good luck with the gf.
Easily one of the most foolish things I've ever done. I hate those bigass tube tvs so much. Thank god for flatscreens now.

I have a 13" Samsung tv that I purchased with paper route money at least 20 years ago. I worked and saved for a long time to save up that $200.
TV still works great, I've used it as an alarm in the mornings for the last 10+ years and hasn't failed me yet. It only gets 3 channels as it can't be used with a cable box. One day its just not going to turn on and I'll sleep till noon but oh well. Best $200 I've ever spent.

I have one sitting in my basement right now, ready to throw in the recycling. 36", about 300 lbs.
I don't know why I didn't post it on kajiji. Assumed nobody uses them anymore. But it's too late now. We got a new TV in the basement a couple months ago. So I first ripped the TV out of the built-in stand, to lighten the load. Could still barely move the thing, and I have a bad back, so I got the bright idea to open it up and pull it into pieces. Big, big mistake. As I started prying open the front casing, I heard popping and the sound of gas escaping. After frantically googling 'tube TVs gas safety' and discovering I had not poisoned my house, I returned and realized there was no way the thing it coming apart. So it sits there still, broken, useless, and defying me. Plan B is the draft some of the guests at an upcoming BBQ to haul the thing into the mini-van.
So yeah, should have put it on kajiji.

If you go to the dump at the area where they keep the trailers for electronics you should see plenty of CRT TV's and I'm willing to bet a lot of them still work as I have dropped off a few over the years that worked perfectly fine but we couldn't get rid of in garage sales.

I remember my dad had one of those 27 inch Zenith TVs back in the 80s that was built into it's own wooden frame. That thing was the heaviest TV I've ever lifted. We had to saw off all the wood piece by piece before hauling it to the dump.
