I've used Jay's Tree Care a couple of times, he did a good job.
With the trees, I don't think he does abortions.

The Kensington Clinic should be able to help you tout de suite. After you abort that little fellow head down the road and get a delicious treat at the new Frogurt shop! Located next to Crave!

Here's a 1-year bump...
With Snowmageddon last year, surely some more people have experience with abortionists...er... arborists, no? I'd really appreciate any recommendations or anti-recommendations for tree pruning and/or removal.

We are currently in the process of finding an arborist to remove a huge pine tree and to do some pruning on a couple other trees. We haven't made a decision yet but have had three quotes. The Tree Doctor was one of the quotes and was by far the cheapest but there are many poor reviews online which is why I don't want to use them. The Arborest is our mid priced quote and they have provided a good level of service and confidence right from our initial meeting. I was hoping to get Maximum out for a quote because they were mentioned in a different thread on here but I haven't been able to get a hold of them.

In my experience, the Arborest is sometimes hard to track down an exact date of completion, as they finish one job and go to the next, time notwithstanding. They did a good job though. Some pruning and a tree infection. Everything looks good so far, and the tree is recovering. They went higher than the roof of the house to be thorough, and did everything safely and with confidence.

Anyone know the rough cost to cut down a tree? I'm talking about a big, mature pine tree. 50+ years old. I'm guessing it's at least 75' tall, trunk is at least 18" thick at the widest. I have 4 such trees on my property and may have to remove one or more in the near future.
I realize that obstructions/access might affect the cost, I'm just wondering what the ballpark fee is.
Thanks!

The tree that we are removing is similar to the one that you are describing. We have limited access so they have to rig it down in pieces. Our quotes seem to be around $1,800 to just over $2,000 including stump grinding to below grade.

Our cheapest quote was $1000 but it did not include stump grinding or hauling the wood away.

They will ask you to measure the diameter of the trunk 1 foot up from ground level in order to determine pricing. I had quotes that were under $1000/tree as long as I took care of the trunk and branches.....no prob if you have or can borrow a chainsaw.
