Flames vs. Maple Leafs, 6 pm SNW
Flames 37-25-5: 79 points, 3rd in the Pacific, 7th in the West, 15th in NHL.
Maple Leafs: 27-35-6: 60, 7th in the Atlantic, 15th in the East, 26th in NHL.
Who would have thought that the Flames would be in the position the Leafs were projected to be in, and the Leafs would be in the basement, where the Flames were supposed to be.
Short and sweet today, I have a wedding to get ready for and help with. The Leafs are bad, and the Flames...not so bad. The Flames had a ridiculously unfortunate 4-1 loss to them earlier in the year. I still don't know how that happened, as the Flames were the better team in that game. 2 empty net goals inflated the score from a close 2-1 game that the Leafs were lucky to be leading in. The Flames outshot and out chanced them, but couldn't buy a 2nd goal.
Hopefully tonight is different, as the Flames have scored 4.4 goals in their last 5 games, en route to a 4-0-1 record. Both goalies have played strong games of late. Even without Giordano, the defense has been rock solid, especially Russell and Wideman.
Toronto comes in to begin a West Coast road trip, and they've struggled mightily in the last 2 weeks. They only have 1 regulation win in that period and it took having both Florida Panthers goalies being injured to score a couple of cheapie goals. They've given up a lot of goals, averaging nearly 4 GA/G in their last 7. A team scoring more than 4 goals a game of late, and a team that regularly gives up 4 goals a game. I'm going to go out on a limb and say the Flames score at least 4 tonight. As long as they defend even a little bit they should be able to come away with the win.
Roster Notes: no news is good news, but several players were on maintenance days yesterday. No word on Byron's return yet. Hiller will get the start. For the Leafs, both Roman Polak and Stephane Robidas had season ending surgery. Nazem Kadri will be held out tonight due to suspension from management.

It always costs me a lot of money whenever the Leafs beat the Flames, so I would like to get some back tonight.

I have a good feeling about this. Last nights OOT should give the Flames a good vibe and determination and the Leafs don't really have anything to play for. I doubt the Leafs even care about being spoilers right now.
4-2 Flames.

Classic trap game tonight, especially with the back to back tomorrow. Boys need to come out hard and put this one away early!
Also, FU Rogers for the idiotic 6PM start time.

I personally think the 6pm start is a good thing for the Flames tonight, especially since they are rushing to the airport after the game and off to Denver

Time to play a solid 3 period game against a lesser team. 3-1 Flames with dominance from start to finish!

What's with the 6pm start. Is it simply to cater to the Leaf's brass out east? I personally don't mind the 6pm start, but did the Lears request it? If so, that GMG. Do the Flames ever play any other Western team at 6pm? No. They why are the Leafs so special?
For that reason alone I hope it's a humiliating defeat for the Leafs and Phaneuf plays a terrible game.

That second picture ... why does Gaudreau even bother wearing a mouthguard? We always see him chomping on it between plays, but it looks like he does it during play too (when he's about to hit the ice hard).

Being a Flames fan in Ontario makes Flames vs. leafs games more important than most any games. A lot of friends are leaf fans and if the Flames lose tonight I'm out a lot of money. A radio host in the area is making a bet with me that would really suck if I lost...more so than the money.
Need a big win tonight. 3-1 Flames.

Former enigmatic Flames defenceman -- sometimes controversial, definitely arrogant -- returns to the Saddledome.
Dion Phaneuf returns as well.
Suck it Tom.

Yup. It is entirely to cater to eastern interests. They did the same when Montreal came to town.

Last time we played the Leafs, Bernier absolutely stole them the 2 points. I don't see that happening again.
5-2 Flames.

Well then they should start all of the Flames games out East at 8 or 9 EST so we can all sit down and watch them, instead of this 5 pm hog wash... Although it gives me a reason to leave work a bit early.

I wouldn't really say the Leafs were projected to be where the Flames are. They've been a non-playoff team most years and didn't significantly change their roster.
That being said, we can't take tonight off. We need every point we can get!
