Alexander Steen's stay with the Jackets was short lived because he was traded to the rival NJ Devils late Monday night. Steen's NHL and CPHL play are proven and although he is a good producer, he is due for a raise and is someone we just won't be able to afford to keep.
To Devils:
Alexander Steen
To Jackets:
Sean Couturier
Morgan Klimchuck
Couturier will also need a raise but the cap hit should be manageable. He is still only 21 years old and we really like his NHL game. It is guys like Couturier we have been trying to acquire to be a part of the core moving forward.
He joins a young group including Mika Zibanejed and Colin Wilson who are both having career years of their own.
With the trade of Steen we will have to see who can slot into the 2nd line RW spot. Will Patrick Marleau get another shot to prove he isnt useless OR will someone like Zibanejed get promoted?
We anticipate Couturier to be moved to the wing for now, we are pretty deep at C.
Oh ya and Klimchuk is a decent prospect, we will see what Ravi is willing to offer for him.
Thanks Chris for the very slow moving trade talks. Find a new job where you are not so busy.
