Default Ratings observation

Now, not sure how factual this is as I'm not researching any stats to back up my observation, while scrolling though the point leaders and goalie leaders I've noticed the standing are starting to be more populated with the elite players

crosby still isn't a lock, but things are a lot closer overall then years past

I don't know if it was a direct attempt to correct an issue but i now believe that the ratings gap between a elite player and a 3rd liner has separated itself enough that although sim luck and chemistry still have a huge role.... your best players are your best players.

Doug, things became much better once we turned off coaching and tweaked the sim.

More realistic anyways IMO

Except the Defense ratings. I find them all extremely clustered together.

Coaching and MO (momentum)
Turning those both off seemed to help.
Not sure which helped more as we turned both off at the same time.
But it removed at least one part of the randomness the sim had.

There just aren't that many highly rated dmen as compared to forwards in general. I don't think thats a bad thing or wrong, its just the situation.

The one thing I do appreciate about the momentum being off is that once you get behind the 8-ball as bad as I did... you can still turn your team around. without carry that previous suck baggage

Standing wise it doesn't look like the Hurricanes gain much ground but we were buried deep like the McDavid spot at the midway point of the year.... In the opening 34 games we were 9-22-3, now after 34 games the Canes are a 21-8-5 team. No chance we could do that with the momentum. We didn't do a huge overhaul to correct our team path, I made a couple bad downgrades that I loose huge on paper that I thought would be SIM smart. Corrected my logic of on paper teams equaling success and made trade for what I considered holes in my sim team and the results have proven right

I previous years when I have gotten behind the 8-ball no matter what I did I was never able to turn around the momentum and the only way was to trade for high momentum players and hope someone would take your low ones in return. You would have to overhaul the full team quickly before someone caught on what you were doing and before the newly acquired players hang around the dressing room long enough to have the momentum sucked right out of them
