I'm trying to look at these Flames comebacks and wonder why they can do it again and again. Is Hartley out coaching Babcock etc? I don't know enough about strategy to make any pronouncements but from what I understand when a team has the lead late in the game, they go into the neutral zone trap and the Flames are beating it. My thoughts are that our mobile defencemen are able to beat the fore checking forward one on one, creating a 5 on 4 mixed up with accurate stretch passes or is there something else or more to it?

Also Gaudreau, Monahan, and Hudler get more ice time when we are losing.

Flames are down 4-0 with just over 7 minutes left in the second when Colborne goes off for tripping. They kill that off, keeping them "within 4", allowing for the 3rd period dramatics.

I bring that up as a segway to highlighting an underappreciated aspect of the Flames recent play: In the last 21 games, they have given up just 3 powerplay goals, killing 41 of 44 penalties, for a .933 PK%. I count 8 1 goal games in that stretch (I included the NJ game with the last second empty netter) where the Flames got a point that they might not have had their PK not come through.

Guys like Bouma, Backlund, Stajan, and Jooris (their top 4 penalty killing forwards) deserve huge credit for that, let alone the offense they chip in.

Don't look now but Gaudreau is 5 points back of Forsberg (granted it's 5 goals)
