I'm more than 50% sure I don't know what you're talking about.

If you do take the 50% shot at what percentage would you say it's not worth it?

I'd go with 0%, personally I couldn't live with either of them getting McDavid. But my buddy says he would go with as low as a 10% chance (meaning there's a 90% chance Edmonton or Vancouver would get him).

i'd definitely take the 50% shot that leaves vancouver with a 25% shot and edmonton with a 25% shot which they already pretty much have locked up.

Definitely the 0% - yes the guy is a good player, but even if he becomes the best player in the league, that doesn't mean guaranteed cup time. Even Crosby only has one, that said he will Help get them going.
I think the Flames are headed in the right direction as they are. No need to throw a potential boost to our rivals.

I'd take my chances at 50%. With those odds, I think you'd be nuts not to, all because you don't want the Oilers/Canucks to have a chance at him too. If they get him, they get him. But why rob yourself of a chance at a potential generational talent?

So would you still do it at 40%? 30%? Where would the line be?

Plus the Oilers would probably ruin him

I'd take it for sure, and would take it down to at least a 1/3 shot and probably lower.

So hypothetically it'd still be guaranteed to go to the Oilers/Nucks if the Flames don't get him? I'd probably go as low as 20% I guess. Anything lower and I'd really have to think about it.

I'll take the 50%. Here's my reasoning:
- 50% chance he comes to Calgary. This, in combination with Monahan, makes an insane 1/2 centre combination and honestly makes the entire team look nuts.
- 25% chance he goes to Edmonton and nothing comes out of it. He's good but I don't think he's good enough to carry an entire roster worth of Oiler stink.
- 25% chance he goes to Vancouver and they might do alright. Their prospect pool is pretty weak and I'm not sure they can generate a good support team for him 5 years from now without the aid of a sudden rebuild.
Neither of the consequences seem absolutely dire...best case scenario, the Flames have McDavid/Gaudreau/Monahan/Bennnet running the team and worst case scenario seems to be fairly middling divisional rivals unless the Canucks go for broke.
Edit -

Probably around 25-30%.

Any chance you have at getting him, you take. Who cares about other teams.

Um if I'm the Flames, I'll take any percentage chance of getting him that exceeds my lottery odds. This is a complete no-brainer. Who cares if another team gets him if you lose? Build your own damn team, don't worry about what others are doing.
