in news that is likely of little surprise to those of us who drive in this city daily - canada's worst driver lives amongst us and shares the road with us:
i get this is reality tv; but her casual attitiude towrds piloting a 3,000 lb missle made me want to "facepalm" in the worst way. wonder if she would be joking so much about her texting/selfie habit if she were to ever be involved in an accident and someone was to get seriously hurt......
i have never watched this show, but if i was ever nominated, i think i'd be mroe concerned about getting driving lessons than enjoying 15 minutes of "fame"........
edit: i am going to nominate myself for CP's worst typist after editing this 3 times

With the two Cowtown contenders this year, Calgary has earned the embarrassing distinction of providing the most bad drivers of any Canadian city over 10 seasons. There have been 11 in total, including overly cautious forklift operator Shelby D’Souza, who first appeared in Season 3 but was brought back for Season 9’s “worst ever” sweepstakes. (Don’t get on your high horse, Edmonton, you are second with five drivers).
One of the guys on this season was pilot. How can one fly a plane but not drive a car? I bet the producers are hunting down Calgary's worst driver.
I think it's a nomination process. It's entirely possible Calgary just has the most concerned citizens about bad driving.
Seriously though, the number of Calgary drivers on there is actually a bit concerning. Didn't a Medicine Hat driver "win" one too?

I only watched a couple seasons years ago but I recall one lost her license because she didn't disclose her heart condition when getting her license. I wouldn't be shocked if insurance also got involved in this regard.
The drivers are so bad on that show once they get to about five drivers left, it really is a crapshoot most of them have no idea about the rules of the road, or to learn them. To me they should all tie for the worst driver at that point cause they are all bad. I will admit the final show this year was shocking usually one stands out among the rest, all three could have tied for worst driver.
It is distrubing to see the final two standing as Canadas Worst Driver were both from Calgary though.

Is it really? I'm on a few local message boards and it's been pretty consistent that people that travel to other places come back saying Calgary drivers are the worst. I mean you can go to Montreal where at first it seems like they are crazier but if you spend time there you realize it's more of a controlled chaos whereas in Calgary there's simply a lot of drivers that don't know how to drive. You can put cameras at every intersection to generate supplemental tax revenues but none of that stuff matters or keeps people safer when there are so many drivers that lack the fundamental skills and knowledge of driving.
I think that show is a bit sensationalized, for TVs sake. I watch it pretty regularly and some of the challenges they go through are somewhat tough. I wonder sometimes how I would do in some of those challenges.
It is a bit unsettling when you hear about their attitudes though. Most think they are fine at driving (and clearly are not), or are just emotional wrecks while behind the wheel. I try to watch the show just for entertainment value and not worry about these people on the roads.

Some folks featured in this show is pretty scary. Not being native to Calgary myself, my theory is many transplants from other places that makes us look worse. I find BC plated drivers pretty bad, followed by Ontario drivers.

I had a friend like this! Total road rage driver, but in the air, cool as a cucumber. In fact, a lot of us didn't like being in the car with him if he was driving and joked about him getting his pilot's license. Of course, the two are different.
Two reasons (at least in his case):
1. There ain't much traffic in the air.
2. Anyone becoming a pilot has a passion about it, whereas driving, is still mostly a chore to most people.
However, I still was one of the only one of his friends (including his brothers for a time!) to get into a plane with him. I thought it was a pretty cool experience. I did yak however! Haha, very windy day, and those two seaters... oh my. At one point we were at full throttle at a 30 degree pitch and we couldn't gain altitude. We eventually had to turn around and come back. We were in the air for about an hour, was supposed to be about a three hour round trip.

I've thought this every time I watch the show too. There are tons and tons of perfectly fine normal drivers who would bomb a lot of those challenges. They take people who are terrible at normal driving and ask them to do extreme maneuvers you very rarely, if ever have to do on the road. Of course it's more interesting and better entertainment, but it's also a little unfair and doesn't help them become better drivers.

Totally agreed. I remember one challenge where they had a massive bucket of water strapped to the roof and had the sunroof open while maneuvering around a tilting platform. I'm not really sure what situation it was simulating, it seems rather pointless and was put in solely for the purpose of entertainment.

They went out of their way this season to point out that they were getting regular driving lessons from their driving instructor that happened when they weren't filming the show. I don't feel bad for them or feel like they weren't getting good help there.
