Default Prediction - Next Playoff Series Win

Interesting first comments from the Football or Hockey town thread - Flames fans went crazy during the first 04 playoff win or we'd be pretty excited as a city if we were first overall in the league.

Being in full rebuild mode, when will the Flames actually WIN their next playoff series? It is one thing to make the playoffs, and given our stellar record over the past decade, it seems a long ways out.

I'm an optimist and this franchise has to have a lucky or "all the pieces" came together at the right time coming up.

Prediction: 2015/16 season. People will be dancing in the streets.

What is more practical of a prediction?

Giving up on this year already?

All we need is a 20 game win streak and we are right back in it.

The Flames will definitely win an NHL playoff series during the 21st century.

Playoffs could be realistic in 2015/16 but in all likelihood we would probably be a lower seed even if we did make it and a series win is probably fairly unlikely. If I had to guess I'd say probably 2016/17 or possibly even 2017/18, but that's if things go right. If things go wrong..? Who knows, could be another decade.

Fun thread.

The problem with the Flames is their horrible record in the first round. Only five times since moving to Calgary I think? So even if we make the playoffs sooner than expected in our rebuild, it could still be a LONG time till we win a series.

I'll agree with 15/16 though, as I'm an optimist.

1.) 6th place finish West in 2016. 6th game OT victory in first round vs Phoenix.

2.) Heroic gutsy clawing tooth & nail into 8th in West for the wild card in 2015 and win in 7.

Hopes for the second.

First playoff series win?

I'm going to wager the 2016/2017 season. With the solid foundation forming (great batch of solid second liners to fourth liners already getting up to speed) and potentially some key UFA signings and trades, looks like a good time to make some noise.

Comparitively, our old pals up the QE2 have a smattering of top six talent but no solid foundation for their bottom six.

I say we get our first playoff series win before the Oilers do.

2016\17 against the oilers. Flames sweep them in 4 games, then the Oilers announce a rebuild.

Realistically 2019-20. Optimistically 2018-19.

I think that the time they're good enough to make the playoffs, they may be good enough to be a conference finals contender. I'm predicting 2015/16 to make the playoffs if the development for our current hot prospects stays good, and either win in the first round that year, or the next. I figure if they do make it and get bumped in 2016, it would be because they're playing against a cup contender.

1989, 2004.....2019 seems like a good year for a cup run. The real key will be not going 15 years between playoff series wins. Hopefully the result is a team who get into that next round 4-5 times over a 6-7 year timeframe, and maybe longer.

I think we return to the playoffs in 2016-2017 and win a series in 2018-2019. We'll have a few first round exits. The first one we'll go out in 4 or 5 and the second we'll go out in 6 or 7. After that we win one in 6 or 7 and then who knows. 04 repeat? Hopefully.

The unfortunate part of a rebuild. Hopefully it is not 4 or 5 years away. We might be invaded by the Yanks for our water before then.
