Wolf on IR, Granlund recalled
Wes Gilbertson @SUNGilbertson
#Flames have recalled C Markus Granlund and moved LW David Wolf to injured reserve. Wolf has nasty cut on leg from NHL debut.

Just tell Granlund he has to find permanent residence already - seems impossible to get rid of him.

That really sucks for Wolf. I thought he looked pretty good for his first game.

Well...looks like I get to harass a source who told me that "It wasn't that bad of a cut". I suppose that's why he's a journalist and not a doctor though.
Hopefully the cut is nothing serious.

Even if it was just stitches, you can't play for a few days 'cause you don't want to tear them.

Sucks for Wolf. I'd like to see him get into 5-10 games to see how consistent his game is at the NHL level.
I never mind seeing Granlund in the lineup, so I'm good with this decision. Lots of illness throughout the lineup right now, so it's good to have a decent NHL level insurance policy.

Thought everyone was using those slice proof socks these days? Guess not, or this one got through. That sucks for a guy in his first game.

Clearly they need to wear Kevlar body suits.

So my learned friends.... is yo-yoing up and down and in and out of the lineup what's best for Granlund's development?

These are hockey players, not temperamental rare garden flowers. The "yo-yo" for Granlund has been like 2 extra flights this year. Yeah, it's probably best for him to stay in one spot and develop, but let's not act like naiive parents sending their children off to college, wondering if getting them to fly back home for spring break is best for their academic development. It's a drop in the bucket.
We all like developing players, but primarily because it's a mutual relationship with the success of the Flames. Having him available to play a game when needed is great for the Flames, and not too much of a drop-off in skill from whoever he's replacing. That benefit far outweighs the risk of hurting the Flames, by hurting his development, by making him pack a suitcase on occasion.

I am a bit confused why they called up Granlund, they have Baertschi available if they need to fill a spot for a winger (i.e. move Colborne to centre if a centre is needed). Unless, of course, these call ups are needed for cap requirements (i.e. one of the more expensive players is on his way out)...

Please no! I don't see him in the long term picture at all unless his scoring takes off in a big way...

Colborne is better as a RW. And if he comes off RW to play C, they need to do even more juggling because Sven can't simply fill in on RW (apprently he's tried it in the past with bad results).
Plus, even if they play Sven, Hartley likes to have a body at hand in case of another injury.

Baertschi may slot in (unless Hudler is healthy enough to play), but you still want the bodies available. No sense playing with less than 23 men on the roster.

But you think public money for a new arena should be taken from the library budget - your judgement is suspect.

Took years for Backlund to start scoring at half a point pace. Granlund hasn't even been on a scoring line apart from the short period when he was with Hudler (and then he was scoring). Once he earns regular PP time he should start scoring some goals.
