Ducks Anaheim To Retire #8

Quote:
The club will host "Teemu Tribute Night" on Jan. 11, 2015 when the Ducks host the Winnipeg Jets. Selanne, who will become the first Ducks player to have his number retired, will see his No. 8 jersey raised to the rafters at Honda Center.

And nobody is surprised by this, what a fantastic player and person.

I LOVED how he announced he was coming back to play last year. The guy is a class act and we're lucky to have watched him play.

If only Winnipeg wouldn't have matched the sheet. Curses.

Good.

Selanne is a beauty, I wish he could play forever. Seemed like he might.

What does surprise me is that he's the first for the Ducks. Why did they never do it for Paul Kariya?

The team was already on record as saying Selanne would be the first number retired. Nobody was getting their jersey raised before Teemu.

good, Teemu deserves to be the first Duck to have his jersey retired. Have to imagine that Giguere will be second.

Kariya should be there, actually they should've retired their numbers together. They were amazing together.

Didn't realize that Teemu spent 15 years with the Ducks organization. He deserves to be the first number retired with that franchise.

I still think retiring jerseys is stupid.

I disagree, it's a way to show respect to a player that meant a lot to your organization. I don't think it should happen very often, but certain numbers just shouldn't be worn by players on certain teams.

I don't. Personally I hope the Flames ditch the "Forever a Flame" nonsense and make sure that 12 and 34 hang from the rafters where they belong.

I was just going to say that at least it's not a Teemu, "Forever a Duck" announcement.

As others have alluded to, this guy is the epitome of what a hockey player should strive to be. A true gentlemen on and off the ice, but an extremely driven (and exceptionally talented) player as well.
Still recall his insane rookie season...

Good. No surprises there. Teemu definitely earned it.

Must be nice to have a good player who's worn #8 for your team.
