Pronman: top 50 NHL prospects
http://insider.espn.go.com/nhl/story...Top50Prospects
Pay article. His criteria for a prospect is less than 25 NHL games this season, less than 50 career NHL games and not on an NHL roster.
Bennett is the only Flames prospect in his top 50.
Gillies is ranked the #7 goalie.
He also lists Poirier and Brandon Hickey in his honourable mentions
Top 20:
Quote:
1. Nylander
2. S. Reinhart
3. Ehlers
4. Bennett
5. Domi
6. Fiala
7. Vrana
8. Pouliot
9. Nurse
10. Petan
11. Dal Colle
12. Duclair
13. Morrissey
14. Kapanen
15. Buchnevich
16. Larkin
17. Fabbri
18. G. Reinhart
19. Virtanen
20. Dumba

He obviously places way too much emphasis on the World Junior Championship. Some guys on that list because they had a great tournament.

Nylander at number 1 is kind of funny, Pronman loves his smaller skill guys so much.

That was my thought as well. Although honourable mention for Hickey is great considering where he was drafted.

Man, Nylander is really overrated. What makes him so special? Just seems like every other small, skilled winger.

smart of him to do this as it's a pay article and leaf fans will be going crazy to read someone's crap as long as they say that the leafs are good.
I don't even know where I'd ranky Nylander but it wouldn't be 1 so I just bump the first 5 up one and put nylander at 5, the list seems a lot more realistic then.

Am I the only one who thinks Max Domi's skill set won't translate that well to the NHL? He looked good in the tournament but he seems like his style of play is more geared towards bigger players.

Domi will be a player, but I doubt he'll be a star.

I tend to think he overrates European players, but Petan and other small guys are super high as well, so perhaps it is the small guys he loves.

Both good Reinharts on the list. Calgary gets Max and the short end of brother combos again (Bure, Neidermayer, Lemieux, Primeau, (probably) Granlund).

I know Pronman doesn't like Poirier for whatever reason (maybe because he really LOVES Shinkaruk), but at this point I don't think there are too many lists out there that can be called legitimate leaving Poirier out of it.
Pronman to me is is closing his eyes and putting his fingers in his ears yelling "La la la la la la I love Shinkaruk" whenever Poirier's name gets brought up. Also, very surprised he dropped Shinkaruk out of his top 20. I am guessing Shinkaruk is still in his top 50, right?

Shinkaruk is not in his top 50 or honourable mentions.

I'm not sure how he can have Virtanen ranked so high and not even have Poirier on the list. Looks like he just wants to get as much viewership as possible by listing players from every team.
Both kids are big power forwards who can skate, hit, fight. Only difference is Poirier already has a pro resume.
Everything that Virtanen has done, Poirier has already done and more, with the exception of Gold in the WJC, but that's really out of Poirier's hands. I still have no idea how he was left off the team and i'm glad Canada didn't even medal last year. Virtanen did as much as he could this year to ruin the Gold for Canada.
I know Virtanen was selected higher in a deeper draft, but I honestly don't know if i'd trade Poirier for Virtanen, especially when you factor in that Virtanen's weakness is hockey IQ, something that Poirier is supposedly a strength.

Not that the Flames were the only ones to pass on Shinkaruk, but man, do they ever look like geniuses now taking Poirier instead. So many people thought it was a terrible pick that was way off the board (Jankowski-esque), but thank god our scouts knew better and got the right guy.

Puts way too much emphasis on what have you done for me lately too, and punishes guys who play in the AHL.
This was his list last year.
1. Jonathan Drouin
2. Evgeny Kuznetsov
3. Filip Forsberg
4. Teuvo Teravainen
5. Brandon Gormley
6. Rasmus Ristolainen
7. Griffin Reinhart
8. Darnel Nurse
9. Bo Horvat
10. Nikita Zadorov
11. Andre Burakovsky
12. Max Domi
13. Alexander Wennberg
14. Mikhael Grigorenko
15. Dmitrij Jaskin

Nylander is the #1 ranked prospect in the entire league?
Odd timing on Pronman's part, considering Toronto just brought him over to the AHL because they were unhappy with his progress this season, as well as witnessing some bad habits displayed at the WJC.

I'm not sold on Domi either. I also think Dal Colle should be higher. I'm a little biased as I am exposed to the Oshawa Generals a lot where I live, but I am a fan.
