Icon34 Pekka Rinne out 3-to-5 weeks (knee sprain)

Potential landing spot for Martin Brodeur?

Actually, thats not a bad thought.

He wants to win 9 more games and the Preds are a good team. Its not crazy.

It could be perfect for both parties.

Do bad for Nashville, having a heck of a season.

With that defense, I think I could be goalie.

Carter Hutton, who has a total of zero wins on the season thus far.

In fairness he went 20-11-4 last year. He's a pretty good, young backup.

Who is shopping goalies? Calgary has to be (depending on how close Ramo is). The other pending UFAs (I would think Nashville only wants a rental) are:

If he's out for the full 5 weeks, the following teams that the Flames care about get to play Nashville without Rinne for the noted number of games:

Colorado - 2
San Jose - 1
Anaheim - 1
Winnipeg - 1

Ramo to Nashville would make a lot of sense - he can get hot, he's a UFA, and he's better than a 43 year old Marty Brodeur. To tread water for a month while Rinne heals up, they could do a lot worse.

Why do the Flames care about Anaheim? Anaheim is going to win the division, Calgary won't be fighting for a playoff spot with them.

If memory serves, Hutton. They have AHL 1A/1B team Hellberg/Mazanec behind that.

They've used both as a call ups before. Hellberg had a spectacular season so far (.934 save %) and Mazanec is holding steady this year.

I wouldn't be surprised if they just ran Hutton/Mazanec.

As I said in the trade rumours thread, whilst this is true, it doesn't paint a fair picture of Hutton.

He has started 5 games, all on the road. 3 of them were against Chicago(a .946 sv% on the night, losing in OT), Boston and Anaheim(lost in a shootout). The other 2 were against Winnipeg(conceded 2 PP goals) and Ottawa(a bad night for him no doubt).

So its hardly like he has been the reason they've lost those 5 games, he's just been unlucky.

We don't play Nashville until March 29.

As Flames fans wouldn't it be better for the teams we can't catch to keep winning and therefore taking away points from the teams we can catch?

I highly doubt the Blues would want to help Nashville out and trade them anyone, even if it's only for a couple weeks. They're duking it out for the conference crown.

Yeah first in that division is huge.

Means you avoid having to play the other really good teams in your division.
