Notes from Jan 14 Practice - Raymond/Granlund scratches? Shore debut? Ortio starts
Likely means Shore is in for Granlund
Quote:
Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
Markus Granlund and Mason Raymond wearing green today to denote the extra forwards. #Flames
|
Ramo still missing, but could be late: UPDATE: apparently skated before the main group
Quote:
Aaron Vickers @AAVickers
Still 10 minutes before #Flames practice gets underway, but only Ortio/Hiller getting prepped with Jordan Sigalet on the ice. No Ramo yet.
|
Shore is on the ice and centering Bouma and Colborne
Quote:
Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
Drew Shore on the ice this morning. Hiller and Ortio the goalies. Ramo skated earlier. #Flames
|
Lines:
Gaudreau-Backlund-Jones
Glencross-Monahan-Hudler
Bouma-Shore-Colborne
Bollig-Stajan-Byron
It is now confirmed Ortio starts on Thursday. Ramo will travel with the team on the road trip

Makes sense, those two have been struggling the most with their game of late.
They keep saying Ramo's injury isn't serious, but something tells me it's much worse than they're letting on. Good news for Ortio anyway.

I'm thinking Ramo's injury is just "serious" enough to keep him on IR so that Ortio can play tomorrow.

Bouma - Shore - Colborne sounds good for a west coast trip

Gotta get Johnny back with Hudler.
Jones is where the puck and play goes to die

Weird, I remember Jones, Gaudreau, and Backlund combining on a nice play for the only goal in our last victory. My memory must be faulty.

You have made the same mistake by not giving a big enough sample size for them being apart

Sarcasm aside. It was the line that scored the GWG. Obviously you want to fortify your opinion but pucks don't die on Jones' stick, they end up in the offensive zone most of the time. Raymond of late is where pucks go to die.
Thats painful to watch.

It's the only sample size available. They've been apart for one game, and in that one game Gaudreau-Backlund-Jones combined for a great play that resulted in the only goal scored from either team that game.

Exactly. It's hasn't been long that Johnny has played without Hudler, so why not see how it goes? It worked for one game. Either way, Backlund looks great with Gaudreau.
Further, Hudler and Monahan were great together last year... and if anyone needs to have their offense jumpstarted right now, it's Monahan.
The lines seem fine for now, and if it doesn't work out, I'm sure Hartley will be able to figure it out.

Glad to see Hartley reward Ortio with another start after posting that shut-out. It is earned.

I think that's the right call. No downside whatsoever to keep Ortio around for a bit and give him another start. Adirondack is in a 1 game in 11 days stretch, so no problem there.
Having Ortio practice with, travel with, and play with the team only aids his development and comfort level.
And all of the prospects notice when any of them get a chance.

If Shore is even just a bit more physical than Colborne, this is the perfect making of an energy/scoring 3rd line.

Doan is doubtful for tomorrow:
Dave Vest @davest4yotes
Head Coach Dave Tippett says captain Shane Doan (lower-body injury) is doubtful for Thursday's game. He also said Martin Hanzal would play.

Yes. Dude is streaky and a good healthy scratch option with Mcgrattan gone. Hope he can show something next time he gets into a game.
