QOTD: What to do with Ortio after the doughnut?
With the Flames big break in games its likely Ramo will be back, with the likelihood that Ortio gets sent down.
Or should they?

Wish there was an option to extend Ramo and deal Hiller to Detroit. I've lost a lot of faith in him over the past few weeks. He wins, he can look great, but I just don't trust him anymore. As for the question I hope they find a way to get Ortio another start to see how he does but that would likely cause more problems than anything. Still, that gets my vote.

Let him get some more starting time and let ramo walk in the offseason and sign gillies so Gillies can take over number 1 with whoever we are with.

capitalize on our assets. I've been looking forward to Ortio for a while and i"m more excited about him than Gillies. See if Ramo can get a good return and go from there.

Had to go with send him down. This season we have the most young players pushing for a spot on the big club then we have probably ever had. A lot of decisions need to be made between now and the start of next season, let him get a ton of minutes until a choice is made about the future.

I voted to send Ortio back. I would like to see him get another game but I think that it will confuse things, and would prefer that he keeps getting a lot of playing time in the A until we have a real spot for him on the big team. I also think that one good game is a little premature to rush a trade for Ramo.
I would however be onside if we were to take our time and find the right deal for either of our current vets. I think that despite his last Shaky game Hiller is the better off our current tandem, but wish he would get back into the play a little quicker after going down. Sometimes it feels like he it's down and out for an excess amount of time.
All that being said the future looks good for us in Ortio.

I say go with 3 goalies for now and give him another start. You have to go with the hot hand.
I wouldn't make any long term decisions based on one game though. Take it game by game for now.

Hiller looks so much more calm and collected than Ramo, but he plays so deep in his crease. If Ramo can improve his calming factor I'm not convinced we prefer Hiller. One game does not Ortio make either. It's awkward but I think we need a few games carrying all 3.
On another thought, this situation may feel erie similarity to Hiller who became the odd man out by two younger goalies recently.

Three goalie system never works. Never. There is only one realistic option here: when Ramo is healthy, Ortio is going back down.

Almost wonder if you have to start him ... he's older, and its a different situation, but do you want that level of "perfection" hanging over him until next fall? Better to go again and have a more mortal outing and then go back.
(clearly this plan goes the other way if he shuts out the Coyotes on Thursday)

The plan all year was Hiller / Ramo with Ortio coming into the picture in the offseason. I don't think one, somewhat emergency, start should change that. If Ramo is healthy for the Thursday game, just send Ortio back down and continue on.

Agree on the three goalie system - but Ramo's play has really tailed off over the last month. If we're going with earned, never given, then Ortio has earned another start. In the interest of keeping Hiller's confidence intact, I'd give Ortio the start he earned when they play San Jose on Saturday.

Send Ortio back down as soon as you can when Ramo comes back.
Only 2 nets, 3 goalies at practice never works out too well.

I feel Ortio will be sent down and it's the right call but I picked the trade option because Ramo won't likely be on the team next year and I would like to see management maximize assets.

Realistically: Ortio back down to finish the year in Addy. Go with Hiller/Ortio next year, Ramo goes at the deadline.
What I want: Ortio goes back down to finish the year. Hiller traded at the draft, Go with Ramo-Ortio next year
I'd like to see another game or two but long term stick to the plan.

I voted send him back. He'll get his chance next season with his 1way contract kicking in. Right now, he got a great taste of success. As long as Ramo is out and Ortio is winning, keep him in net. But having the 3 headed goaltending monster like the Oilers did a while back is a bad idea. He's dominating the AHL right now and there's no rush to get him to stay until next season.

Ideally trade Ramo while you can and go with a Hiller-Ortio tandem, but I think sending down Ortio is more likely.

It sounds like there is a market for a decent backup goalie that can fill in for injured starters. I would be hesitant to base a trade on one good game from Ortio but if you can get a decent return for Ramo I think you pull that trigger.

Hiller seems to have come back down to earth a bit over the season, he has looked down right shaky in the net some nights. I haven't looked at the games, and it would be interesting to see. But how tough are the opponents Ramo has been facing vs. Hiller? And how well has the team played in front of Ramo vs. Hiller?
I really think that if Ramo had played as many games as Hiller, his numbers/performance would be the same or even worse. I don't think the goalie takes all the blame here, and I think that we are better off sheltering Ortio from what is a pretty random season so far.
