So I bit the bullet on a flight deal to NYC and the wife and I are going during the Flames Eastern road swing at the end of February/start of March.
We're going to watch games at:
Madison Square Garden
Prudential Center
Nassau Coliseum
Wells Fargo Center
Couple of questions, are the fans in any of those arenas ones we should be weary of? Will we be okay to wear Flames' attire, cheer for goals and not worrying about getting shanked? Haha.
Any suggestions on how best to get tickets from a deal perspective? Ticketmaster, Stubhub, or wait it out until closer to the date and try to get deals on game day?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance CP!
It's worth paying for decent seats in Philly. I wouldn't wear opposing team colors in the rafters there. Down low, guys have threatened to kill me, but they're much less likely to go through with it than the guys in the cheap seats.
I've been to a game in Philly wearing a Flames jersey. People don't care because theres no rivalry between the teams, you'll have some guys that'll say something but thats expected. I met an Oilers fan at a bar after the game who was way worse and said this year is our year, that was in 2013.
You're going to love MSG and the Rock. Even Nassau has its charm. I did the three New York arenas in April, but New Jersey was the only arena the Flames were the opponent. I was just about the only Flames fan in my third of the rink, but I had no issues whatsoever even though the Flames won 1-0 and basically eliminated the Devils from the playoffs.

I've been to 3 in Philly, I wore a Flames jersey each time. I've never had a real problem, the worst I ever got was a "Canada sucks" and "Iginla sucks" on different occasions when walking out. Of course we were in the lower bowl, I would never wear opposing colors in the rafters.
I have been to various arenas wearing an opponents jersey such as the Flames, Patriots etc and never had a problem.
Best advice I can offer would be to not engage anyone stupid and don't let any of the ball breaking get to you personally. When the other teams score your bound to get a little chirping but that's to be expected in someone else's barn.
In any event your going to have a great time on that road trip. It was a trip I was planning on attending with a large group of buddies but is looking less likely now. Enjoy the cities, the dining and the arenas. In all my sports travels to the US I have never once had a problem so all should be well.
I wore my Flames jersey in the upper sections at MSG and didn't have a problem other than some chirping. Nothing aggressive or unpleasant. Did the same thing in Boston. The Flames won both those games too. Long as you don't engage and respond in the chirping you're gonna be just fine far as I've experienced. It's not like the people in the nosebleeds are psychopaths.

I've worn my Flames Jersey in 22 different cities (will be 23 as of Saturday night).
Haven't had a real problem in any of them, incuding Philly, Jersey, Rangers, and Islaners.
Don't be a dick and you'll be just fine.

I've worn an Oilers jersey in a dozen or so arenas never got chirped too much except for maybe the person beside me laughing but that would be after I strike up conversation.
In Calgary and Vancouver totally different story but to be expected due to rivalry/western canada.
It's not nearly as bad if you are wearing a jersey from an out of conference team. Wearing a Flames jersey in Philly isn't the same as wearing a Rangers jersey.
Went to a Rangers/Bruins playoff game in MSG few years back. I was surprised at how tame it was....we were expecting a raucous crowd and got appropriately drunk. Turns out we were probably the most raucous guys there. People were laughing when they realized we were Canadian.
I went to an Oilers/Stars game in Edmonton somewhere in the middle of the Stars beating the Oilers in the first round 71 consecutive years thing. I didn't wear my Nieuwendyk jersey, but I should have. There were others around in Stars jerseys and they were treated well. If you act respectful you won't have a problem, and if somebody tries to give you more trouble than you deserve others will stop it.

I got a pair of lower bowl tickets, row 7 right at the net section where the Flames shoot twice at for Philly.
Looking into tickets for the remaining games...wow the Rangers and Islanders are expensive...surprised Philly was so cheap ($170CAD for 2 seats total).
