Notes from Jan 4 Practice - Jooris banged up?
It was an optional skate today 13 skaters and 2 goalies on the ice. edit: actually it was not optional as per Derek Wills

Looks like an optional practice for the #Flames today. No Giordano, Brodie, Wideman, Russell, Gaudreau, Hudler, Glencross, Jooris.
Derek Wills @Fan960Wills
Contrary to my earlier tweet, today's #Flames practice was not optional. 15 players were told to practice, others didn't have an option to.

Josh Jooris came onto the ice late sporting a blue non-contact jersey and skated by himself. He may be banged up

Jooris just emerged from the dressing room in a powder blue "don't hit me" jersey. Getting his wrist taped.
Calgary Flames @NHLFlames
Josh Jooris donned a no-contact jersey today for maintenance. He is expected to return to full practice tomorrow.

Ladislav Smid did skate before the main group but was also wearing a blue non-contact jersey
more updates as they happen

Raymond back in by default, then? To be honest, I didn't really notice him gone.

I'd love to see Backlund draw back in as well, but if he truely has lost something like 15lbs as someone on here said, I really hope they take their time with him. He's proven to lack durability at the best of times, I can't imagine how quickly his season is going to end if he's not in top physical condition when he comes back. And he's also not the type to come back in and ease into IMO (which is admirable)

damn onions

this might be a stupid question but does anyone know what "maintenance" means?
Seems like a weird descriptor, like a person is a car or something.

That's basically what it means. They down-shift your practice/workout intensity to allow healing without shutting you down all the way.

I think it means he's hurty, but not hurty enough to miss a game but they don't wanting him adding to the hurty in practice so they don't allow contact or he sits it out.

Awesome news! He'll probably start on the 3rd line but will hopefully move up the line up as he rounds into form.

Don't understand that tweet.
15 players told to practice, others didn't have an option to? (Ie they had to practice?)
So 15 players told to practice and the rest had to practice?

I think the 15 were the ones that Hartley and the gang deemed good to practice, the others are rested.

15 players told to practice... others were told not to practice, they weren't even a choice in the matter

Ah ok others weren't allowed to practice even if they wanted to. That makes more sense.
